Makua Rothman has always been full of aloha charm, and now it’s resonating into a growing musical career. Taking a cue from the old sounds of Hawaii and blending it with his own modern twist, Makua is making music - and he’s making it sound good as is evident in our D-Side clip here with his song “Sweet Sunshine” playing in the background. Dibi: Wow, sorry to hear your having a tough time. Every situation is so different, I’d hate to just throw out some trite suggestion not knowing anything about the circumstances. Being a Mom is the most difficult job, remember to stay calm and dispassionate even though you may want to kick something when dealing with inappropriate behavior. If you engage you’re just aggravating an already bad situation. You can cry in your room later if you want, or beat a punching bag, whatever, but be cool, I think that will really help.

Dibi: When I was young, guys couldn’t afford to surf as a profession, and now with the big sponsors they have a chance to travel the globe in search of waves, so I’d say the upside to those fortunate enough to get the chance has been incredible. The downside are the crowds that are now everywhere. But progress is always both sides of the coin.

There are stepping stones to all learning and I learned with time how to present the material better, which is the key to teaching. Hey Dibi, I’ve been a big fan of your family for years. I had a battle with drug and alcohol addiction a few years back that landed me in rehab 3 times, and I know Christian has had his issues along hte same lines. Thankfully I just celebrated 9 years clean, got married a year and a half ago, and also am about to finish college. My question is even after being sober as long as I have I have still felt a little lost as to what I should do with my life, what is yoiur best advice for life after addiction? Dibi: Christian wrote a technical description of a Judo air and posted a picture of Al Partanen to illustrate his text on Surfer’s FB page, as they had made such an obvious mistake in their description in the Tricktionary article. They deleted it and CF reposted it until they blocked him from being able to post anything. Herb went to their office on another issue and it spilled over. They finally admitted by phone that because he’s not sponsored his comments are not relevant. Pretty interesting, don’t you think??

That’s when I really started finding out who I was. I love to learn, I’m really a perfectionist about my own skills and very demanding that I live up to the goals I’ve set for myself. I’m never bored, there won’t be enough time to master all the things I’d like to. I cook dinner every night and love to laugh.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Greyson much while he was growing-up, but he now lives with me so the relationship we have is ours to create, it’s not filled with a lot of memories that sometimes cloud the present. I believe we’re both very respectful of each other and there isn’t the sense of entitlement from him that ones own children have with their parents, so we’re very lucky in that sense. I adore my sons, and certainly I feel that way about Greyson as well, and I’m quite sure the feeling is mutual.

All our vacations are planned around where he wants to go surf. On days off,, he’s at the beach. On weekends, it’s the beach. Dibi: Guys are always going to play, that’s part of their nature. He has a job you said, so I’d be stoked that his hobby is relatively inexpensive and healthy.
