Dibi: In my Dad’s generation, all men went in the service; he said it made a man of him and always thought it would have been the best thing for all his grandsons. I’ve always respected his opinion and have thought often about it. I started a charity to help entertain the military but have had a bit of a hard go of it lately with the poor economy. It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my withdrawal for candidacy for the position of San Clemente City Council.

At this point in my life, I have come to the conclusion that my son Greyson takes precedence and priority above and beyond all other matters. Though I have spent a lot of time researching all issues and avenues that would benefit and help the residents and city of San Clemente, I think it is far more important that I continue to build a relationship with my son first and foremost. He is what matters to me more than anything else.

We just got back from an epic skate event up in Oregon, and we’re planning another one down the road. We work together, live together, surf together, skate together. This is my life and I love it. The time is now but, at the same time, time waits for no one. I missed out on a lot of his earlier years, so I need to be here for him now. I admit, it’s been hard trying to play catch-up, but it’s also been a blast. Trials and tribulations - and I wouldn’t trade this moment for anything.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported me along this brief political journey of mine; family, friends and especially to my loyal fans. You guys have always had my back and it really shows.

But I’ll be back. Just because I’m withdrawing now doesn’t mean my career in politics is over. Who knows what the future will hold? So, expect to see my name on the ballots two yeas from now. Christian Fletcher for San Clemente City Council 2012!

And, man, I really like how Councilman Fletcher sounds… I think it has a nice ring to it.

Hello Dibi, enjoy reading your insights to all things and life in general. I’m a mom with two sons myself who are now 28 and 32 and boy, I tell ya, they’ve put me through the ringer! There were times when I just crumbled to the floor but I lived with the hope that they’d “come around” eventually and they have! Reading about you and your family has made me feel so “human” and though there are still struggles on a daily basis in my own life, I truly feel a maternal kinship with you. Dibi: Life as a Mom was certainly nothing that I ever could have imagined. Lots of heartache, loneliness, and tough times, but seems like the sun is finally starting to shine. We’re all working together and enjoying each others company, which I never thought would happen just a few years ago. How cool. Dibi: Well, I guess I started out as a hippie. I ran away from home with Herb when I was sixteen. Life was great, the beach was perfect, the waves in front of the house were unreal. Then life started to kinda get in the way, you know, responsibility has a tendency to do that. WOW, kids. So it was time to grow up. Dibi: It was 1976, and everything was sleek and cool. We thought that “Astrodeck” was a great name for something that was the last part of a perfect-shaped surfboard - where your foot is planted for maximum torque in your turns. Christian used it to launch air, so it really ended up pretty okay.
