Dibi: Yes, I remember the era quite well. Herb was always into design and experimentation and pushing things forward. He believed in the down rail and still uses them today.

Dibi: I’ve been so busy with some other projects that the time has just slipped by. But I have some interview ideas that I’ll try to get and hopefully there will be some new D-Side cuts soon.

Dibi: Things change as we move forward, we have a couple of CF pads in the line that seem good right now so will run them for a season or two and then redesign. We’re friendly with Pottz [Martin Potter] but our paths don’t cross much these days… but you never know what’s in the future.

Dibi: Nathan is an innovator, a great designer, uniquely interesting, and honestly kind. Those are qualities that make him relevant, it’s not just surfing or, like you said, none of them would be forgotten.

Dibi: We both do, and, yes, being artistic helps. But, honestly, in many instances we have to design for a public that is often quite a bit more conservative then either of us.

Dibi: When I was growing-up, there was a real difference. But now the line is definitely blurring with the big contest money, agents, managers, trainers, corporate sponsorship by publicly traded companies, etc. And that will be a factor that will forever change surfing. In some ways I find that very sad.

Dibi: It was a Volvo commercial that we did with Bruce Weber. Bruce sold Volvo on the idea of how cool it would be to have this wild surf family represent the “All American family” car. They loved it - until they wanted to start changing everything. It was fun at the time; I love working with Bruce, but I never had a copy of the finished product.

Dibi: Ah, the Fletcher’s “Cabo Classic” was some fun. I’ll try to get some clips from the video and post them when we get a new website; We’re thinking about embedding videos and not uploading it on YouTube because then Google own’s the rights.
