Dibi: I think stereotypes of any group are a mistake; it’s being mentally lazy to heap people into preconceived sub-categories to dismiss them. There are all types of people that surf and it’s been a pleasure being part of a great community.

Dibi: I remember how free it was to be a kid. I think it’s really sad to miss it - both for the kid and the parents.

Dibi: Hard to say. I don’t think that I can really separate any of the above as they all make me who I am. I love learning new things and I think that keeps me going and engaged in everything around me. I used to play subliminal tapes for CF when he was asleep that said “I love to study” - I don’t think they made much of an impression on him, but to this day when I pick up a book it’s like I can hear that in the background. Those tapes worked great on me!

Dibi: Thank you, that’s very nice. I can’t tell you how much fun the last couple of years have been with Christian and Greyson living and working with me. It’s so much extra work and hassle, but so amazingly rewarding, too. Enjoy the time with the kids, sounds like an old cliche but it’s truly over before you know it.

Dibi: We lived there off and on for quite a few years when we were young. Yes, Christian was born there and we moved so we could make a living and do a lot of things we would have been unable to if we had stayed on the North Shore. It was the right choice for us.

Dibi: I stayed at home until Nathan was 16. It was great, I had a painting studio at the house and a sculpting studio out at my Mom’s stables, and plenty of time to spend with the boys.

Can you ask Christian when he was surfing in the WSA’s and NSSA’s who his competition was and when he was doing the PSAA tour who he felt his competition was there? Did he ever do the ASP? Thanks. – Ray Saucedo
Dibi: David Eggers in the NSSA. Evan Caples, Steve Ward, and Dino Andino in the PSAA. He had done ASP events, but after a few decided that he would enjoy surfing a lot more if he took another route.
