Dibi: Christian wrote a technical description of a Judo air and posted a picture of Al Partanen to illustrate his text on Surfer’s FB page, as they had made such an obvious mistake in their description in the Tricktionary article. They deleted it and CF reposted it until they blocked him from being able to post anything. Herb went to their office on another issue and it spilled over. They finally admitted by phone that because he’s not sponsored his comments are not relevant. Pretty interesting, don’t you think??

Dibi: Yes I was a dancer, but I’d also say I was a risk taker. I grew up fast, left home in Capistrano Beach really early, and had Christian while I was still a teenager. That’s when I really started finding out who I was. I love to learn, I’m really a perfectionist about my own skills and very demanding that I live up to the goals I’ve set for myself. I’m never bored, there won’t be enough time to master all the things I’d like to. I cook dinner every night and love to laugh.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Greyson much while he was growing-up, but he now lives with me so the relationship we have is ours to create, it’s not filled with a lot of memories that sometimes cloud the present. I believe we’re both very respectful of each other and there isn’t the sense of entitlement from him that ones own children have with their parents, so we’re very lucky in that sense. I adore my sons, and certainly I feel that way about Greyson as well, and I’m quite sure the feeling is mutual.

Hey there Dibi. What a great forum! Here’s my question; A few years ago I had seen a photo that I contribute to Bruce Weber. It was amazing and featured you dancing. Was this for a particular photo shoot with Bruce Weber? It was a bit grainy - even to the point of looking like a frame grab - but that may have been the speed of the camera shutter? I’m also familiar with the Fletcher Clan in Weber’s documentary, “Chop Suey Club” which I thoroughly enjoyed. Been a sideline observer of the Fletcher’s ever since. Dibi: I really got into ballroom dancing for quite awhile and went to many competitions. Rhinestones, feather dresses… what’s not to love? The particular photo you’re referring to was from the Fontainebleau in Miami. The event offers you the opportunity, for a cost, to buy videos of your different dances, which I did and let Bruce use some of it and also pull some grabs for stills. So, you’re perfectly correct.

Hey Dibi, sorry for the loss of Flippy. Speaking of Flippy, I’ve read about the history of him and Walter. Such rich history. I’m curious how they became known as the “Dana Point Mafia” and why they settled on raising their families in Orange County and not somewhere like Malibu. I ask this because I thought they were originally from Los Angeles and geographically thought maybe LA county beaches made more sense? - Ray Dillard

Dibi: Some writer gave them that name in print and it was used many times after, so it kind of stuck. They liked it down here because it wasn’t Malibu. It was very quiet with nothing going on but lots of great surf. They had always had a summer house in Laguna, so they just gravitated to the area when they bought their first homes and thought that living directly on the beach was worth the commute.

Dibi: I’m not so great with names out of thin air; it took me a couple of weeks to name Nathan. I felt I needed to get to know him before I threw a name on him that he’d have to live with forever. So, I’m afraid I’m not sure what I’d name a girl.

Got a drug test coming? I thought it had a two week window? I beleive there’s all sort of things that you can get at the health food stores or online that are supposed to clean the system, but I’ve never had to use anything so I have no idea what to recommend.

THE THREE SAVING GRACES OF “HEY DIBI”

Note to readers: In case you’re wondering why there are so many grammatical errors as far as the content of some of these questions goes, that’s because I’ve left them as is. I haven’t edited or corrected the comments and questions people have been asking for “Hey Dibi”. Sometimes I get a kick out of the typos and terrible sentence structures. I mean, I know I’m not perfect in this area, either. There are probably a lot of errors you can find in this paragraph alone. But, man…someone once wrote me something and misspelled the word “ocean”. Seriously. They wrote “oshen”. So, anyway, instead of acting the part of the Spelling Gestapo here, I’m just gonna go with the flow and let you guys get a kick out of the type of stuff I get to read every day.

Well, I’m posting this blog one day early. My grandpa’s birthday is actually tomorrow, July 27th. He’s gonna be 79-years-old and he’s still gnarly as ever. He doesn’t know how to play bingo and sit down in a rocking chair and vegetate. And you know what? I’m pretty fucking okay with that, ’cause he’s radder than all of us and he always will be.

Dibi: Yes, they both were in the NSSA. Christian was kicked-out when he did a clothing ad for Stussy, and Nathan wanted to go to Metallica’s Monsters of Rock concert instead of the Nationals in Texas. So I guess it was shades of things to come.

Hello Dibi, enjoy reading your insights to all things and life in general. I’m a mom with two sons myself who are now 28 and 32 and boy, I tell ya, they’ve put me through the ringer! There were times when I just crumbled to the floor but I lived with the hope that they’d “come around” eventually and they have! Reading about you and your family has made me feel so “human” and though there are still struggles on a daily basis in my own life, I truly feel a maternal kinship with you. It’s so wonderful to see Christian interacting with his fans on Facebook. He seems so healthy and positive! And he’s also very funny and I never knew he had that side to him! His Barrack Obama photos are a crack-up! What’s your take on this whole social networking and message board forums such as the one you use on Christian’s site here? Dibi: Life as a Mom was certainly nothing that I ever could have imagined. Lots of heartache, loneliness, and tough times, but seems like the sun is finally starting to shine. Dibi: I always laughed that I was a Heinz 57 - not ever thinking that NF would need a sense of belonging. My family heritage is quite interesting, as is everyone’s. I come from the last royal family in Germany and my ancestors discovered Georgia with a group pf convicts for the Queen. Herb’s mom was adopted at birth, and she was the offspring of a full Cherokee brave and a Swedish girl. Herb’s dad is part Blackfoot and his great-great-great grandmother was a sea captain.
