“Hey Dibi, is bacon really meat candy?”

Monday, June 6th, 2011

Just to remind you guys, I’ve left all the questions written as is. I’ve figured, why go out of my way to make some of you guys look smarter than you actually are and correct all your grammatical errors? Fuck that. - Christian

—————————————————————————————————————-

Why does Christian let meth heads shave his back? sounds dangerous to me! Haha – Recycled House
Dibi: I have no idea what you’re referring to, but it certainly sounds a bit odd.
—————————————————————————————————————-
Is BACON really meat candy??? – Recycled House
Dibi: Not as far as I know, ugh.

—————————————————————————————————————-

HOw was it back in the late 60s (or whenever that was) when Herb and Hynson were first experimenting with the downrailers? Do you remember it, did Herb express to you right off the bat that they were on to something? Must’ve been some cool times. – Cenen Aparicio
Dibi: Yes, I remember the era quite well. Herb was always into design and experimentation and pushing things forward. He believed in the down rail and still uses them today.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Nathan said in Surfline that he never even finished reading a book. That surprised me. Thought he was a reader? – Dale Newdsome
Dibi: I think he reads quite a bit, but I believe he has a more of a piece work attitude about gathering information.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hey dibbs, were you born in Hawaii? I know walter surfed Hawaii but cannot imagine not from the looks of your pics anyway that you were born back then when he was in Hawaii? – Kent Taloga
Dibi: No, I was born in California.

—————————————————————————————————————-

What has Greyson been up to? Any big plans for summer? The kid is an amazing skater! – Dante Hause
Dibi: Thanks, I think he has great style. He’s playing it by ear right now, but he and CF were planning on another trip to Japan for a surf/skate event in August.
—————————————————————————————————————-
What happened to the d-side, any new interviews? - Matty Growden
Dibi: I’ve been so busy with some other projects that the time has just slipped by. But I have some interview ideas that I’ll try to get and hopefully there will be some new D-Side cuts soon.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hi Dibi, what happened to the Christian Fletcher rad pad? And do you guys still keep in touch with Pottz? – Rick Crawford
Dibi: Things change as we move forward, we have a couple of CF pads in the line that seem good right now so will run them for a season or two and then redesign. We’re friendly with Pottz [Martin Potter] but our paths don’t cross much these days… but you never know what’s in the future.

—————————————————————————————————————-

I have a disagreement with my friend he says Herbe did San Clemente Locals but wasn’t it New? – Scott Aaronsen
Dibi: You are correct, it was Jeff Neu.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Has greyson ever worked with Larry Clark and Ed Templeton for skate photos and lifestyles? I can so see him doing this! He has the look! – Monica Sanchez
Dibi: No, he’s never worked with either.

—————————————————————————————————————-

I’ve read your answer somewhere before on Hey Dibi about how you made Nathan wear pink wetsuits so you could see him when he was out surfing. Great idea. But no one makes pink wetsuits anymore! – Mike Fionesco
Dibi: Well, if that’s the case, which I don’t know, I guess I’d have to be creative and use spray paint, rash guards or anything else that would allow me to spot him at a distance.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Have you ever been duped by a scheme? – David Lorin
Dibi: I thought I’d gone crazy when I looked at my magazine pile and noticed I had “Bird Magazine”, trying to win Ed McMahon’s Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes.
—————————————————————————————————————-
Did Christian and Nathan play a lot together when they were kid? I know there is a 5-6 year age difference. And I don’t mean surfing and skating, but doing things like watching TV together, doing homework, maybe helping you bake cookies. Tee hee. J - Diane Clarke
Dibi: They were best friends for years and did everything together. It was a really fun time for all of us.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Do you think Christian likes it when so many people always bring up his past in surfing and are stuck in that era? – Jess Ward
Dibi: I think he’s used to it, and I don’t think he lets it bother him one way or the other.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hey Dibi what do you think is the worst and ugly surfing related fashion trend of all time? – Heather Mitora
Dibi: I look back and laugh at some of the old photos, but they were contemporary during their time so they seemed cool.
—————————————————————————————————————-
Noticed CF likes MMA you think he’ll get into it like Rory [Parker]? – Jim Willis
Dibi: Who knows what he’ll do next? That’s one of the things I like best about him.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Does Christian still play in a band? What happened with axefuck and absolute? – Daniel Bacca
Dibi: No, not currently. Chris Williams passed away years ago and everyone else went their own ways.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Dibi you mind being called a m.i.l.f or does it bother you?!!!! – Robert Patchuka
Dibi: My dear, I didn’t even know what it meant until I asked, and if that’s the worse thing I’m called, I guess I’ll live with it.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Love Christian’s write-ups esp. the one of Motehers day with the photo of you and the boys! Nothing but love! How great you must feel! – Candace Nolan
Dibi: It’s been a long, very bumpy road, but life’s great right now, and I’m enjoying it to the fullest.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Why do you think that at 35, Nathan is still in the public eye with the magazines and in the surfing world where a lot of his contemporaries are now not even relevant anymore? Hello? Anyone remember Ratboy Collins and Colin Wagschal? – Tim Egerenoff
Dibi: Nathan is an innovator, a great designer, uniquely interesting, and honestly kind. Those are qualities that make him relevant, it’s not just surfing or, like you said, none of them would be forgotten.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hey Dibi, who designs the pads and sandals? You or Herbie? Or both? I know both of you are artists so does that go into creating your products or not? – Evelyn Jones
Dibi: We both do, and, yes, being artistic helps. But, honestly, in many instances we have to design for a public that is often quite a bit more conservative then either of us.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Do you think there is a difference between a surfer and a jock? Isn’t being a surfer an athelete and so many surfers are also competitive. – Wayne Wilde
Dibi: When I was growing-up, there was a real difference. But now the line is definitely blurring with the big contest money, agents, managers, trainers, corporate sponsorship by publicly traded companies, etc.  And that will be a factor that will forever change surfing. In some ways I find that very sad.
—————————————————————————————————————-
Hey I’ll ask Dibi maybe she can ask Herbie, what happened to Herbie’s “Revenge Mono Glue” ? – Peter Tripp
Dibi: Like many things we’ve done, it’s just part of the past.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Dibi whats the follow up with those crooks who tried to scam grandma Fletcher? – Darren Clifton
Dibi: That incident actually happened to my mom - not Herbie’s. And sorry to say there was nothing we could do except post it to let other people become aware.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hi Dibi what did the Nathan and Christian do for you on mother’s day? And greyson to! – Charlie Dillon
Dibi: We all met at my house and laughed a lot. It was great being together.

—————————————————————————————————————-

HEY! Hi Dibi! I think I read someone asking you about the car commercial you guys did a long time ago. Did you guys post that up? I think this was from 1990? – Brian Guerrero
Dibi: It was a Volvo commercial that we did with Bruce Weber. Bruce sold Volvo on the idea of how cool it would be to have this wild surf family represent the “All American family” car. They loved it - until they wanted to start changing everything. It was fun at the time; I love working with Bruce, but I never had a copy of the finished product.

—————————————————————————————————————-

There was a pic of Nathan and Herbie in 1989 or 1990 I think something like that herbie is towing in young Nathan it was in a mag maybe Surfer mag anyway you guys have that pic ? I tellin my friends Herbie first to tow Nathan and Christian and they say nahh no way. I say its TRUE there is proof!!! Maybe was this Zippers? No I do not know. – Juan Hortado
Dibi: You’re right! I’m not sure where the stills are, Herb’s out of town, but I have movies of Herb towing Christian in at Off the Wall in 1984!

—————————————————————————————————————-

LMAO please post more photos like that of you guys at Disneyland. Makes me laugh! I love it! – Jill Gardner
Dibi: Thanks, old family photos are always fun. We don’t have many to top that as most of our times were spent at the beach.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hey Dibi! So my question is: What do you think is very pure and natural about surfing and what do you think is pretentious and phony about it? Thanks, Hey Dibi is great! Look forward to it all the time! – Jen Carpenter
Dibi: I think the art of surfing is very Zen like, and the sport of surfing has become just like all the other sports.
—————————————————————————————————————-
Who movie character do you think each of you is similar to in personality. 1. Dibi 2. Herbie 3. Christen 4. Greyson Fletcher 5. Nathan Fletcher – Richard Brennen
Dibi: I think we’re our own movie, starring the Fletcher’s.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hey Dibi, did Greyson have to audition to get the part in John from Cincinnati or did you guys create the part with him already in mind to take the role? – Bill Naverette
Dibi: He was introduced to David Milch and hired.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hi Dibi, let’s write a memoir together. Between the two of us we can make the surf industry go in hiding from shame. – Sloth Fratelli
Dibi: I think a new soap opera would be great, much better then a memoir and a lot more fun!

—————————————————————————————————————-

Will you ever have a full showcase of your brilliant artwork on display on Christian’s site here or do we only get to see them once in awhile for Hey Dibi? L - Joey Heppler
Dibi: I’m not sure, things change so fast and I have some new things I’m working on that will probably be perfect for his sight.

—————————————————————————————————————-

Hi Dibi how are you? Read about the bastardization of the aerial maneuvers that so many of these so-called editors have been ruining. As well as the lack of recognition for Christian. Will it ever change? – Mark Toner
Dibi: I’m fine, thanks. If history is any indication, I doubt things will change much.
—————————————————————————————————————-
Any chance we can see the video on your website or some photo still of Christian and Nathan and Bloodshot and Gadnium from the Cabo contest days? Sick ass days for sure!! Memories! – Troy Murphy
Dibi: Ah, the Fletcher’s “Cabo Classic” was some fun. I’ll try to get some clips from the video and post them when we get a new website; We’re thinking about embedding videos and not uploading it on YouTube because then Google own’s the rights.

Hey Dibi: “Can I have Christian’s phone number?”

The Fletcher fam damily back in the day.

The Fletcher fam damily back in the day.

Just to remind you guys, I’ve left all the questions written as is. I figured, why go out of my way to make some of you guys look smarter than you actually are and correct all your grammatical errors? Fuck that. - CF

————————————————————————————–

Hey Dibi, how are you? I have a question. What do you think if this country were to enforce that all men, by the age of 21, serve in our military for at least 2 years? - Timothy Ryan (San Clemente)

Dibi: In my Dad’s generation, all men went in the service; he said it made a man of him and always thought it would have been the best thing for all his grandsons. I’ve always respected his opinion and have thought often about it. I started a charity to help entertain the military but have had a bit of a hard go of it lately with the poor economy. I don’t question the advantage that great discipline brings into your life, I just question the judgment of those ultimately in charge.

————————————————————————————–

Other than your father, husband and sons, who is your favorite surfer? - Jonas Vikker

Dibi Fletcher: Bruce Irons, best style!

————————————————————————————–

Are the questions on hey dibi really being answered by Dibi Fletcher? - Tracy Heffron

Dibi: YES. I don’t let anyone else ever speak for me!

————————————————————————————–

What historical person do you relate to or admire - Dan Rodgers

Dibi: There’s certain aspects of many different figures that I admire, but they’re all human with many faults as well. So, perhaps it’s easier to think about what qualities I aspire to; loyalty, honesty, integrity, tenacity, sincerity, humility and a great sense of humor will be a good start to my list.

————————————————————————————–

Nate Fletcher is a beast! I’ve seen him ride slop and I’ve seen him attack the biggest waves. Did he always have balls of steel when he was a kid too? I think he surfed Waimea at 15 foot plus when he was only 12?????? - Mike Chapman

Dibi: Yes, he was always so much younger then everyone that he pushed himself to keep up. He seemed cautious but fearless at the same time; an interesting juxtaposition of character traits thrown in together.

————————————————————————————–

Hi Dibi, I read an interview that Christian did and in it he mentioned that he liked listening to Devo and the B-52’s. Never thought I’d hear him say that! Who knew Christian was such a New Waver? Ha ha ha. - Warren Alotis

Dibi: I think there’s many things about Christian that would surprise people. Most only see one side of someone and think they have them pegged, seems very short sighted.

————————————————————————————–

Dear Dibi, will you marry me? Leave Herbie and his jet skis. - B. R.

Dibi: Another guy wanting me to take care of them? Sorry, my dance cards full at the moment, but thanks for asking.

————————————————————————————–

This is more a request I hope than a question but I love the photos you have would it be possible to post a family portrait of you herbie christian , nathan from the early years? They make me smile. - Patty Schreiber

Dibi: Thanks, I’ll have to look for some.

————————————————————————————–

How have you guys achieved that rare feat of still being family owned and operated? Times are so tough but I have yet to see Astrodeck ever sell out to the big stinkers. Keep it up! - Beau Marcum

Dibi: Thanks, it’s such hard work when all the big guys can out-spend you and undercut you at the same time. But here’s the middle finger to them all: “We’re not going away!”

————————————————————————————–

Hi Dibi, so was Christian really going to run for city council are was he just pulling our legs? I wish he did I would have voted for him! Fletch man rules! - Chris Darwin

Dibi: Yes, but he thought it was best to spend time with Greyson right now.

————————————————————————————–

Is there really a Dibi? Or is this just one of Christian Fletcher’s evil masterminds yet again? - John Kinney

Dibi: Dude, on ocassion I’m sure Christian wishes there was an evil mastermind.

————————————————————————————–

If u were bald would u wear a wig or u dont care if ur bald? - Tom Foolery

Dibi: I shaved my head before and it was cold but cool. I wear wigs, every color for a change of pace, it’s all good.

————————————————————————————–

CF’s facebook is rockin! The things he posts are so funny. But I also didn’t know that he got deep sometimes. Love the funny stuff but also love the social commentaries and questions he poses. It’s interesting because he actually doesn’t talk about surfing much. There’s more to him and I really am a huge fan of Hey Dibi as well so please never stop! - David Knox

Dibi: Thanks, we actually rarely talk about surfing ourselves, not much to say; drop in, go for it, make it, eat shit. It’s fun if you’re the one doing it, but it does lose something in translation.

————————————————————————————–

Is Christian sponsored by anyone right now? - Dill Chapman

Dibi: Himself, and it’s perfect!

————————————————————————————–

I know the truth and I know that Dibi Fletcher is the one keeping it all together! So thank you to Dibi! Women never get the respect or acknowledgment in this Big Boys league! And that sucks! - N.S.

Dibi: Hey, thanks, that’s very nice.

————————————————————————————–

What is your one specific favorite memory of Christian growing up? - Danielle Weissman

Dibi: There really isn’t just one, there’s a million little small things that make our lives special, and a million memories that become the gifts of a relationship.

————————————————————————————–

What really happened? Why was Christian in Bali for so long? Are the rumors true - because he had to and didnt want to come back to US soil? - Mark Kohling

Dibi: He went for a couple of days and stayed a year-and-a-half, and had the time of his life! How nice for him!!!

————————————————————————————–

Hi, when are you guys going to do a D-Side with Greyson? Been waiting for it! I am a big fan! - Josh N.

Dibi: Greyson just did an interview with Jason Jesse for Juice Magazine, and so he’s getting more used to the format and feeling more comfortable so it won’t be long.

————————————————————————————–

How much do you roll your eyes in disgust over our stupid questions? LOL! - Chloe Walsh

Dibi: I try to be respectful and answer with out judgment.

————————————————————————————–

Hey Dibi, many thanks for the laughs you give me for having to put up with our questions. I think this is really great. What gave you guys the idea to do something like this? And please keep up the good work! :)  - Crystal Shaw

Dibi: People used to ask Christian questions and he’d answer “Ask my Mom” so we thought it was a good idea to go direct.

————————————————————————————–

Hi Dibi, curious to know, do you still actively compete in Ballroom dancing? My friend, Mary Bruins used to compete in your division I believe. Were you featured in any showcases? Thank you. - Victoria Mattison

Dibi: I got so busy working, I didn’t have the time anymore. It was really great to travel with my mom and play dress-up but times change and on I go to the next adventure.

————————————————————————————–

Hey Dibi, so we’ve all read how Christian was the wild child and Nathan was the quiet one. But what’s surprising to you in contradiction to this? In other words, what is Christian actually kind of quiet and subdued about and what makes Nathan craaaaaazy? - Al Thornton

Dibi: Christian is very non-judgmental and Nathan can’t stand big social functions.

————————————————————————————–

What the fuck??? How come Ian Cairns that fat aussie pig and Richie Collins are on Christian’s fan page????????? - Craig Zinman

Dibi: They can’t stand not being where the action is, and we’re all quite amused by it.

————————————————————————————–

Hey dibi, the fletches rock! you guy make me want to surf and rock and roll evyday !!! can i party with all fletchers? !! - Alain Bazzir

Dibi: Sure, if the occasion arises we’ll all be there.

————————————————————————————–

Hi Dibi, can I have Christian’s phone number. Hehehe. Just kidding. ;) - Rayna Blythe

Dibi: That’s a decision above my pay scale.

————————————————————————————–

How different would it have been if Jeff Booth and those other morons didn’t write that letter? - Sam Hutchens

Dibi: Who’s to say? We’re all happy and no one but yourself can take that away, so let people say what they want.

————————————————————————————–

On a scale of 1 to 10 how much of what you read about Christian or what you read about stuff in general in the surf mags is true? - Zachary Tom

Dibi: I can’t say about anyone else, but most of what others say about Christian is written to create controversy and in hopes for a sale.

————————————————————————————–

Carne asada or carnitas? Help me make my dinner choice! - Hamish Stephen

Dibi: Nice salad, broiled new potatoes, and a half bottle of Vietnamese hot sauce thrown on top.

————————————————————————————–

Nathan has made it known that he is not a competitive surfer but I always thought despite his image and reputation that Christian actually kinda was. So….was he? - Ray Van Duyn

Dibi: The only one Christian had to compete with was himself; all the judges gave him no points for what he was doing, so he just created different tricks to outdo the last one he had mastered.

————————————————————————————–

Dibi do you have any home remedy for the runs? All this over the the counter stuff ain’t cutting it for me! I’m in pain! - Brian Rockford

Dibi: I’m no doctor and prefer leaving a diagnosis to someone who is.

————————————————————————————–

HELLO DIBI WHATS UP I WANT TO WORK AT ASTRODECK I AM NOT JOKING I WILL DO ANYTHING I WILL EVEN CLEAN CHRISTIANS SHIT FROM THE TOILET PLEASE HIRE ME I AM A GOOD WORKER DO I NEED TO ASK YOU OR HERBIE I KNOW YOUR THE MAN EVEN THO YOUR  A WOMAN TEE HEE BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN ARE YOU GUYS HIRING???????????? - BEN OSUNA

Dibi: So sorry, this time of year is extremely slow.

————————————————————————————–

Fuck Ann Landers or Dear Abby or whatever it is now let’s get Hey Dibi nationally syndicated!!!! Yewwwwwwwwwwww! - Tyler Hawthorne

Dibi: Thanks, that’s quite funny.

————————————————————————————–

If you had to pick to be an animal what animal would you be an why? - Dustin Mackenzie

Dibi: A cat. Independent, graceful, great coat, and very intuitive.

————————————————————————————–

I laughed when Christian said he had a cockatoo and he trained it to bite Nathan. Any more fun anecdotes from their childhood, dibi? I love them! - Melissa Chambers

Dibi: I cut my hair when he was two, he didn’t like it and refused to call me Mom. He referred to me as Dibi and rarely addressed me personally for quite some time.

————————————————————————————–

It has been a rough year. First Marvin and now Andy. Do you think Andy’s death was really from the fever? I don’t buy it. - T. Simmons

Dibi: I wasn’t there and no use speculating, the results will be out soon with the offical cause. It’s very sad!

————————————————————————————–

RIP Andy. So stoked that Christian is still here with us! Dibi, are you guys doing ok? - Kai Stinson

Dibi: Thank you, everyone thought it would be Christian. I’m very sorry for the Irons family.

————————————————————————————–

I am sorry about the loss of your friend Andy. He will forever be immortalized a Wave Warrior. Will you guys be putting out a footage retrospective on him? I only ask because I know he is a Wave Warrior. Thank you. - Vicente Pena

Dibi: We’re working on something that I’m sure he’d be stoked to be a part of. He was a Wave Warrior!!!

The D-Side With Art Brewer: Part 1

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Art Brewer usually lets his photos do the talking. So it’s a rare circumstance to capture the legendary surf & lifestyle lensman in front of the camera himself.

Part 1 of this D-Side interview centers around Art talking about his association with Bunker Spreckels, the prodigal stepson of Clark Gable and heir to the Spreckels Sugar dynasty. Two years later, Spreckels would be dead, but Art was along for the ride…and what a ride it was.

Check it out.

Astrodeck By Herbie Fletcher: The Originator Not The Imitator

Friday, August 27th, 2010

When the first Brazilian in the ’80s started using OUR company name, Astrodeck, Herb contacted him and tried to negotiate a deal to buy back our Astrodeck name that he had registered in Brazil. The guy was very uncooperative and did not want to sell it to us-which was very unethical-but, unfortunately, not illegal. Herb contacted a lawyer here in the states about options and he was advised that he could probably win the case but it could exhaust all company assets. Herb had a young, growing family, limited resources, and so he made the decision to move forward by creating films and products that he was proud of, hoping that he could revisit the Brazilian infringement at a later date.

Time marched on and the business had periods of expansion and contractions, with many people jumping into the traction market that Herb created through his invention of the surfboard tail pad. With many players in the market for the pad (Which, by the way, is the smallest segment of surf-related sales.) being dependent on the purchase of a new board, it was difficult to keep our small family-owned company afloat. There was much money spent with attorneys getting trademark protection in many foreign countries, but most never produced the revenue that made the expense worth while.

We had heard nothing out of Brazil for quite some time until we ran into our friend, the shaper, Pat Rawson, at the tradeshow last year and he said that he wanted us to meet a young Brazilian who had bought “Astrodeck” from the previous Brazilian who had trademarked it. Pat said that the young guy really wanted to make it right and work with us. We were thrilled! After the initial introduction, I started to correspond with him through emails as I was always the one who handled all the international business. It was almost immediately apparent that the only way to work together would be a licensing deal due to the exchange rate, import duties, etc. I called him to discuss going forward and he became extremely reluctant to put together any specifics after he said that he was making many items with the Astrodeck name on them, and I said that I felt he would rightly owe me a royalty on anything with the Astrodeck name. He then said that he would have to talk to his people at Astrodeck. That pissed me off and I tried to politely explain to him that he WAS talking to Astrodeck. That’s when he decided to hang up, and that’s the last any of us have heard from him.
That is, until he popped up on Facebook with an Astrodeck profile and account. He is now also in the process of launching a website known as Astrodeck.com.br., where he has even stolen my Astrodeck logo and insignia that was personally created by Shawn Stussy for Herbie.
My attorney said yesterday that I have a very good case. But it could cost me north of $80,000.00. And at this point, with a still-small family-owned business (practically one of the only ones still surviving in this surf industry), that kind of money could completely destroy what we’ve spent our whole lives trying to achieve.
What he’s done may be lawful…but it’s immoral, unethical, and fuckin’ stinks!!!
Best regards,
Dibi Fletcher

THE THREE SAVING GRACES OF “HEY DIBI”

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Note to readers: In case you’re wondering why there are so many grammatical errors as far as the content of some of these questions goes, that’s because I’ve left them as is. I haven’t edited or corrected the comments and questions people have been asking for “Hey Dibi”. Sometimes I get a kick out of the typos and terrible sentence structures. I mean, I know I’m not perfect in this area, either. There are probably a lot of errors you can find in this paragraph alone. But, man…someone once wrote me something and misspelled the word “ocean”. Seriously. They wrote “oshen”. So, anyway, instead of acting the part of the Spelling Gestapo here, I’m just gonna go with the flow and let you guys get a kick out of the type of stuff I get to read every day.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program…

hi dibi, what do you think is your greatest attribute and your biggest flaw as a human being? - Anonymous

Dibi: Patience and impatience. The great thing about being human is we get to play both sides of the record.

————————————————————————————–
Hey Dibi, how does nathan stay so fit and trim. I’ve seen him eat JUNK. soda after soda, candy to the max. real sweet tooth! - alec k.

Dibi: He surfs more than anyone I know.

————————————————————————————–

Did the Fletches sit down to family dinners every night? - Kent Smythe

Dibi: It depended on what everyone was doing and at what age they were. When they were younger, yes, but as they got older and the surf was good or whatever. I left dinner for them in the fridge and everyone ate when it was convienient.

————————————————————————————–

Well since Christian asked it, Dibi, what do YOU think about affirmative action? - Aaron Perron

Dibi: I think people should be hired based on skill!

————————————————————————————–

Hey Dibi, does your family own Tar Farms in San Juan? Just curious. - Carrie M.

Dibi: Yes.

Hi Dibi. What do you think is a trait people see as bad and negative but you think is actually very good? - Justin Newsome

Dibi: Honesty; it’s been traded in for political correctness. UGH!

————————————————————————————–

What were Christian and nathan like as little groms? - Jessica Hines

Dibi: They were so cute and loving. We had a great time!

————————————————————————————–

Dang, Greyson kills it. But how come he skates so much without the helmet? Dibi make him! - R.T.

Dibi: Thanks, I have…

————————————————————————————–

Dibi can you ask christian this for me? i heard he and hosoi hate each other. true? why? or stupid rumors? thanks! - HVSkateMethod

Dibi: I don’t think that’s true; they see each other at skate events occasionally and I have an interview they did together awhile back, and they seem fine to me.

————————————————————————————–

Greyboy’s fucking awesome. He can dominate the sk8 world. He gonna be on dside or some other intervews soon for other mags, never seen a Q&a with him ever? - Lee Ellings

Dibi: Thanks, I’m planning to interview him, Christian and Herb for the D-Side soon.

————————————————————————————–

Hey Dibi! Ever think of showing the D-Side interviews with YOU in the video? Would love to see you interacting and not behind the camera! Thanks! Love ‘em! - Diana Prestiss

Dibi: I’ve thought about it, but I always want it to be about the person I’m interviewing. Herb wants me to set up a table and chairs or something, but I not sure that I like the idea. I’ll have to think about it a bit more.

————————————————————————————–

Do you guys have the extra copy of Thrasher magaizine with christian on it? I’ll buy it from you. I reallyl want it.If you doplease let me knows ok! - tom rocha

Dibi: No, I’m sorry, I sure don’t. I called the guys at the mag awhile back and they sent me a CD of the article for my personel collection.

————————————————————————————–

Well Christian I mostly come to FB and not websites but admit I do check out your mom’s Hey Dibi and those DSide interviews. If I could ask Dibi something, I’d want to ask her Prop 8, for or against? And for the Dside can we put in requests or suggestions about interview subjects? - Mike S.

Dibi: The thing I find scary about the issue, is that one judge can override the votes of 7,000,000 people. Our constitutional right to have a say is no longer relevant?!? WOW! And, sure, you can put in requests…but that doesn’t mean I can always pull it off. But I’m interested.

————————————————————————————–

Thanks for all the great personal pics! Please keep them coming it’s great you let us take a peek into your lives! - Cass Osment

Dibi; Thanks, it’s fun to see some of them again myself.

————————————————————————————–

What do you think is the best taste in the world and the worst smell in the world? - Ted Hill

Dibi: I’m seriously addicted to Vietnamese chili garlic sauce. Man, it makes your nose run, your eyes water, it’s great! And the worst smell in the world are Christian and Greyson’s socks!!!

————————————————————————————–

how tall R the Fletcher men? - Abby LaRue

Dibi: Christian, Nathan, and Greyson are all around 5′10″, and Herb’s around 5′8″.

How do you feel about a Catholic church being built next to a playground? - Timothy Daniel Flynn

Dibi: Sounds fine to me; throw in some great stained glass, beautiful architecture, and I think we’re good to go. Unless a McD’s is available because, of course, they should be on every available corner.

————————————————————————————–

Hi Dibi can you ask CF if he likes doing airs still or is he sick of doing them? - Malachai Scott

Dibi: It’s him!

————————————————————————————–

I LOVED the photo of you and Nathan! What a beautiful young family! So my question is, I recollect reading that you said you had the boys at a young age. Do you think you would have been a different kind of mother if you had the children at let’s say, 30+? - No Name

Dibi: Of course, I woundn’t have been the same as I was as a teenager. But I have no regrets, I did the best with what I knew, and the beat goes on.

————————————————————————————–

Hey Dibi, I want to know who Cf thinks wore the pants in the family? You or Herbie? - Troy Maude

Dibi: Herb was really lucky and got to spend so much time playing with the boys, while I took them to the orthodontist, school, had the parent-teacher conferences, the visits to the principle, you know the job. That’s just the way it was, and now we all work together, and it’s still the way it is and everyone seems to be stoked so I guess that’s the answer.

————————————————————————————–

again again, where are the grommet shots of Nathan? you promised…. S.W.

Dibi: Nathan likes his privacy and I try to be respectful of that.

————————————————————————————–

What’s a bad habit you wish you could stop cold turkey? (BTW, Hi Mom! I love you! I’m on Christian Fletcher’s website! ;) ) - Casey Meisher

Dibi: I’m really rather controlled -duh-in what I do, so I’ve tried to eliminate bad habits years ago…and I’ve remained pretty successful with it.

————————————————————————————–

DIBI! I LOVE YOU! DO YOU LIKE CHIPS AND SALSA?! I DO! - MARTIN ZUNIGA

Dibi: I’m more into veggies with salsa, but I do adore hot sauce.

————————————————————————————–

Thank you for this! I get diff perspective I never knew and admit I judged you guys but reading things from Dibi’s perspective even with short replies, it makes me really think of the human level that we are all one and wear our pants one leg at a time! Christian your mom made me rethink a lot of judgments i had about you braddah! Hoooo! - Kai L.

Dibi: That’s very nice, thank you. Everyone’s life is filled with ups and down, but being able to laugh at ourselves so we don’t take things too seriously is really great.

————————————————————————————–

Dibi, your thoughts on Oprah, BP, the recession, scented candles, Nathan’s hairstyle, other traction companies, and the summer weather thus far. - Tom Merrill

Dibi: Who cares, we still need drilling, they’re usually too heavily scented, it seems to suit him, they SUCK, and the last couple of days have been great.

————————————————————————————–

Watching the old vids, reminds me of good times. Whatever happened to good ole Gack? - J.J.

Dibi: He got so old he had to be put down.

————————————————————————————–

You guys always make me laugh and have great stuff to come back to. Astrodeck’s site should have Dside and this question and answer stuff too not just on christians, you guys will get mroe audience maybe? ah fuck it i aint telling you how to do your jobs good work guys! lol. - carlos hueriziga

Dibi: I’m glad you enjoy it. I have fun doing my part.

————————————————————————————–

Great interview with Bruce. That guy is classic. Andy’s was a good one too. When we gonna see your 2nd boy, Mrs. Fletcher on the D-Side? - John Petersen

Dibi: I’m not sure that he’d like to do it; he’s very shy and I respect that.

WALTER HOFFMAN SURFS BETTER THAN YOU

WALTER HOFFMAN SURFS BETTER THAN YOU

Well, I’m posting this blog one day early. My grandpa’s birthday is actually tomorrow, July 27th. He’s gonna be 79-years-old and he’s still gnarly as ever. He doesn’t know how to play bingo and sit down in a rocking chair and vegetate. And you know what? I’m pretty fucking okay with that, ’cause he’s radder than all of us and he always will be.

Check out the video link below for a D-Side interview he did with Dibi and Herbie.

I SEE DEAD PEOPLE

Thursday, January 21st, 2010

While thinking about doing my own little “Man Of The Street” Q&A’s with random people, I’ve been thinking about who I’d like to interview or have a conversation with that are now dead. You know, just random shit, shoot the breeze.

In my life, I’ve known a lot of people who have come and gone. A few really good friends who have now passed on and who I wouldn’t mind getting caught up with. Three good buddies that I’ve lost are Justin Roberson - a great surfer, and who I had the best times with in Hawaii. Parker Mitchell, another friend and ex-Hell’s Angels, and Chris Williams who was in the band Mutilage with me. Man, good memories with those guys. Miss ‘em all. The talks we’d have now; I wonder how much they would have changed or not changed had they still been alive today. What would be going on in their lives now? Would we still be friends now? I’m hoping that would be yes.

As far as entertainers go, it’d be pretty cool to hit up a conversation with Jimi Hendrix. My parents Herbie and Dibi were in a movie with him back in the day. Maybe you’ve seen it: “Rainbow Bridge”. That was before my time. I’d ask him about his surf music. Heavy guitar. What happened to the surf music and why was it never going to be heard? Did Dick Dale have something to do with it?

And I wouldn’t just want to have tender, civilized talks with these guys. I’d want to chat with random gnarly people like, how about Merlin the fucking Magician? That’d be pretty cool. Don’t know if I’d actually chat with him or just fucking stare and watch him do some crazy shit with his magic and wand. Fuck Harry Potter. Merlin’s the shit. I’d ask him to turn some people I dislike into trolls, maggots and someone’s constant dried-out prison bitch.

What about having lunch or dinner with Vlad the Impaler? You know, the real Count Dracula. This guy was fucking insane. No mercy. Evil son of a bitch. I can picture myself having some eggs benedict at his place while he drank a champagne glass full of blood…you know, out there on the veranda, cold dreary day in Transylvania with the stench of his victims everywhere, their decapitated heads all lined up, surrounding the fort, and blocking what would have been a beautiful view of the natural landscape. Maybe he’d ask me about surfing and doing judo airs, and I’d ask him just what the fuck was wrong with him to do and think the way he does. Fucking nutball.

If I were still into drugs and got strung-out, I think it’d be pretty cool to hang out with Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols. But being sober now and seeing as how that lifestyle is a thing of the past for me, maybe it wouldn’t appeal to me as much. I don’t know. I guess I don’t have to be high to talk shit with Sid.

Those are just some people off the top of my head that I’d like to interview and talk with. Dead people, that is. What about you guys? Who would you like to meet and ask questions to?

And, oh yeah, I guess I wouldn’t mind meeting Marilyn Monroe, too. Obviously, I’d ask her if she knew who killed her. Then I’d ask her if her carpet really matched her drapes.
