Dibi's Russian friend Oleg was able to get Dibi an appearance on Russian News TV as the Special American Correspondent. So take that!

Dibi's Russian contact Oleg was able to get Dibi a spot on Russian News TV as their American Guest Correspondent. Dibi will update Russian viewers on everything from American politics to pop culture.

Questions are left as written. That being said, some of you need to learn how to use Spell Check! - CF

Hi Dibi, what do you think of the whole Bobby Martinez debacle? I’ve heard a lot of different opinions on the whole matter and was curious on what you thought. Personally, I think Bobby needs to suck it up and stop acting like he’s some kind of martyr or victim. - Rob Gallagher
Dibi: I always find it interesting that when you have the great good fortune to get paid to go outside and play, there’s some guys that still find a lot to complain about. Wow, I’m grateful to work in the back of the Astrodeck warehouse packing boxes.
————————————————————————————-
Do you think having surfers who have sponsors such as Target, Toyota, etc. is great for the overall sport and visibility of surfing as far as mainstream appeal? - Carol Sendry
Dibi: When I was young, guys couldn’t afford to surf as a profession, and now with the big sponsors they have a chance to travel the globe in search of waves, so I’d say the upside to those fortunate enough to get the chance has been incredible. The downside are the crowds that are now everywhere. But progress is always both sides of the coin.
————————————————————————————-
Hi Dibi, any chance of getting one of those Wave Warriors t-shirts I saw Slater and Machado wearing at that Wave Warriors photo shoot? Do you guys sell them anywhere? - Kyle Brown
Dibi: Those were for the photo shoot exclusively, but we’re printing ones that are very similar and they will soon be available on our website www.astrodeck.com
————————————————————————————-
Are stereotypes of surfers justified? Or do you think they’re insulting? You know, blonde, sunburnt, unemployed, living in a van, smoking weed all the time, etc. - Adam Wheeler
Dibi: To me, stereotypes are a lazy person’s way of marginalizing people.

————————————————————————————-
Hello Dibi Fletcher! I know Walter is your father and I think he’s great! I am a friend of Anthony Edwards and would see Walter jump in the water nearly every evening in Capo Beach out in front of his house. How is he holding up? And sorry to hear about Flippy. - Nick Randazzo
Dibi: My Dad’s great, thanks for asking. He still works full time, surfs, and plays his ukulele.
————————————————————————————-
Why can’t I buy Astrodeck slippers anywhere on Maui yet?!?! I ordered a pair 4 months ago and they really are the BEST, most comfortable slippers EVER! & they are really durable too! They are still like new after wearing them everyday for 3 months(they don’t get smelly either)! I’ll rep them for free & get em in shops here just so I can buy more! Aloha! - Robby Webb
Dibi: That’s really nice, thanks, we’re proud of the products we make. Maui’s pretty locked up by the “big” guys and they don’t want any of the shops to carry our goods. So, I guess you’ll just have to order direct, sorry.
————————————————————————————-
Hi Dibi. I would think you’ve been though a lot as Christian and Nathan’s mother as well as a person just living through these times with economy, terrorism, environment, etc. But still do things “SHOCK” or surprise you any more? - Chris Spiers
Dibi: Sometimes I get a little jolt, but mostly human natures seems to repeat itself. I try to be positive, laugh a lot, and be grateful!!
————————————————————————————-

I’ve never seen a photo of Julian Schnabel surf but I’ve heard he does. Does Herb have any film or pics of the guy surfing? - Grant Knoxe
Dibi: Yes, Herb has plenty. They’ve surfed together at many different spots, and Julian is a natural.
————————————————————————————-
Who is going to be in the new Wave Warriors movie? - Felipe Zamora
Dibi: Ah, that remains to be seen. It will depend on the footage we’re able to gather. With everyone traveling with camera men now, there is so much amazing film that it will be quite a job to pick through it.
————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi, I’m worried about my 5-year-old son. I’ll call him “Joey”. I received a note from school saying that he has been chasing all the girls around the playground, trying to pin them down and kiss them. I can’t help but feel a bit alarmed about this behavior. Am I overreacting? - Tracy Lindstrum
Dibi: You’re being asked by the school to put a stop to the behavior. Boundaries are the most difficult job of a parent, but also the most important in the longrun. I wish you the best at picking the right words to say in the right manner so Joey hears the message.
————————————————————————————-
Does Julian Wilson ride for Astrodeck? He blasted about his pads on twitter so I was wondering is all. - Ryan Schweitzer
Dibi: He loves the pads, and we wish we could afford him. But, as it is, he goes to the local surf shop and buys them. Maybe that says something very interesting about the quality of Astrodeck?
————————————————————————————-
Describe the worst girlfriend Christian ever brought home. - John Winchester
Dibi: I’d really rather not, it’s all water under the bridge now and things are great!!
————————————————————————————-
hi Dibi I have been reading hey dibi for awhile and like it but i don’t think i have ever read a question where they ask you who your favorite artist is??? - Danny Regis
Dibi: I don’t have one; I hate to limit myself. It’s kind of like asking what dance I like best and I always thought the right answer is, the one that I am doing at the time.
————————————————————————————-
what was christian like as a 2yr old? - Christine Crispell
Dibi: Fearless, inquisitive, funny, precocious and adorable.
————————————————————————————-
Does Joyce still surf? - Bobby Gray
Dibi: She does a lot of stand up now with the cold weather, and surf’s more in the summer.
————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi. does it scare you to see Nathan riding HUGE waves? you have a very talented family. - Scott John
Dibi: Nathan feels very comfortable and loves what he’s doing. No matter what I feel, it’s my job to keep it to myself.
————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi, were you disappointed that Love Burger in San Clemente was closed down? - James Gonzales
Dibi: I don’t eat burgers, so I was never really aware of it one way or the other to be honest. The guys go to a few different burger joints so I assume there are still plenty around.
————————————————————————————-
Wich son gave you the biggest headache? And why…. :) - Ricard Oliveira
Dibi: I learned so much from each of them, I wouldn’t be who I am without all the things I’ve gone through. I’m grateful to them both for helping me grow up.
————————————————————————————-
haha who did C get his sharp tongue from? - Piu De
Dibi: I would say that he certainly has a lot of my family traits, and the gift of gab seems to be one.
————————————————————————————-
When I was a kid and my parents lectured me it went in one ear and out the other. I was like yah yah yah! You guys nag so much! Now as a father of 1 preteen and 2 teenagers, I find myself lecturing them all the time. Lol. Was that the same way for you Dibi? - Mike Stillman
Dibi: I’m sure that’s the way they took it, but as they are older now, we all laugh about it a lot. Lecturing seems to come with the territory. Being a parent is one hell of a hard job; good luck and I hope that underneath the “yah, yah, yah” attitude, your kids are smart enough to realize how much you care.
————————————————————————————-
Was Bruce on something when you interviewed him? The interview is f–king funny as hell!  Great job! - Sergio Argumosa
Dibi: I’ve had the good fortune to interview Bruce quite a few times over the years, and he’s always over the top, animated! He’s one of my favorite people to ask questions - the answers are always unscripted and genuine traits I admire.
————————————————————————————-
Do you remember escorting Christian to high school one day? All the guys well and girls were like blown away! Hot mama!:)-I remember pumps and a skirt! Lol… The things we remember… - Michelle Patterson
Dibi: Of course I remember. Christian and I reminisce about the parent escort day occasionally and get quite a laugh out of it.
————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi. How are you? I enjoy your interviews with Juice Magazine and your DSide Interviews and Hey Dibi here. Christian has mentioned that you also write for some French and Japanese magazines. Are you now on the creative outlet as writer rather than scuptor/painter now? Also, any chance of getting those links to those interviews? Thanks! - Ivan Muir
Dibi: I wish I had time to do everything, but I work so much that the writing seems to have taken over. I’m lucky to have the opportunity to know such an interesting assortment of characters, and I feel that being a woman and a Hoffman-Fletcher gives me a bit of a different slant on surfing than most of the other writers. Christian doesn’t post links unless they’re
available with translation, but whenever somethings available I’ll try to make sure it gets posted. Thanks for the interest, I sincerely appreciate it.
————————————————————————————-
Greyson’s calendar is great! I read that all proceeds go to charity so I wanna know why he picked the Unicorn Existence Foundation rather than maybe the Surfrider Foundation or PETA? - Karen Van Buren
Dibi: Hey, it’s Greyson pick.
————————————————————————————-
Hi Dibi! Dibi, you’re way better than Dr. Phil! - Bob Cooney
Dibi: Thanks. A bit more random and humorous, I hope. But it’s great that people seem to enjoy it.

Greyson Fletcher 2012 Calendar

Greyson Fletcher 2012 Calendar

Against my better wishes, Greyson decided to participate and model for a 2012 calendar. But I guess I can’t be too negative about it. I mean, he did it for a good cause. The calendar costs $12.99 and all proceeds go to the “Unicorn Existence Foundation”. This is a non-profit organization that helps people preserve the faith and belief of the supposed “imaginary” unicorn. It’s a tragedy that more people out there don’t believe. You can make a difference. Only you can help change minds.

Here’s a glimpse of some of the images from Greyson’s calendar. Note that I didn’t post up all the months, just a few. For the complete calendar, order yours today! Remenber, by doing so, you help extinguish the silly notion that unicorns, and other beings such as leprechauns and Eskimos, are only mythological creatures.

An Old School Fletcher Family Christmas

An Old School Fletcher Family Christmas

You asked, Dibi answered.

Here’s another round of “Hey Dibi” for your reading pleasure.

————————————————————————————-

Hi Dibi, do you think holidays like Christmas and Hanukkah mean anything anymore? Or is it all too commercial now? – Joan Schwartz

Dibi: I can’t speak for anyone else, but I have so many great family memories around Christmas. I think it’s a wonderful part of the evolution of being a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. It’s one of the few times a year that I get to experience all the above roles in a day and I’m grateful to pass on the traditions that have become a part of my family history. It’s also a great time to donate time and or money to charity as gifts for family and friends.
 ————————————————————————————
Hi there Dibi. I’ve read a lot about Herbie and Julian Schnabel being friends. Did they meet through through mutual friends in the art ciricle? – Wayne Turner
Dibi: Hey, Herb and Julian meet in Texas when they were both teenagers. Herb was there to compete in a surf contest and Julian lived there with his parents at the time. They didn’t see each other for many years and were reintroduced by a mutual friend.
 ————————————————————————————
Ok so if you got to cast the Fletcher movie, who would play you, who would play Herbie, and who would play Christian, Nathan, Greyson, Walter and Joyce? – Stephanie Neal
Dibi: I think the only ones I can think of to play us, would be us, we’re all unique and more complex then some one would be, pretending to be us
————————————————————————————
Do you think that there are certain individuals who were truly born evil? – Josh Killman
Dibi: YES!! I believe history proves that your question is correct.
 ————————————————————————————
Hey Dibi. My friends piss me off. A few of them are sponsored by surf companies that I would kill for. They don’t even care or appreciate what they get for free. I don’t think I would ever act this way. And they weren’t like this when we were way younger. I trip out how much they’ve changed! – Mike Paulsen
Dibi: That’s really sad, pretty soon perhaps they’ll have a tent at one of the “Occupy” spots, expecting another free hand out. In the words of Margaret Thatcher, “Socialism is a great idea until you run out of other peoples money.” I’m sure a lot of the companies are getting down that road about now and the faucet is starting to run dry, in many ways I think it will be great for your “sponsored” friends. It will help them become of much more value to themselves in the long run.
————————————————————————————Hey Dibi, I love the Wave Warriors photo shoot. But why weren’t you in it? – Linda Musser
Dibi: As usual, I was at the office working. Someone has to do everything while the guys are on the beach. I did get to write about it, and I was stoked to have the opportunity.
————————————————————————————
I dig your pads! The colored and designed ones are so sick!!!! With your artistic background are you the one who designs them Dib or Herb or you both? – Brent Karsson
Dibi: Thanks, that’s very nice. We all take great pride in the quality of the pads we put out and we all have a hand in the design process.
————————————————————————————
Hello Dibi. What do you think is right with this world? What’s wrong with this world? – Scott Foreman
Dibi: I think people are what’s right, and people are what’s wrong.
————————————————————————————
Who is your favorite Wave Warrior? Who is Herbie’s? Who is Christian’s? Who is Nathan’s? – Gregg Rausch
Dibi: For me, that’s like asking what’s my favorite color. I don’t have one, each is perfect at the right time and in the right conditions. I can’t answer for the guys, but I’m sure they feel much the same as I do.
————————————————————————————
Hi Dibi are you going to be doing any more interviews for Dside and Juice? – Elaine Wheaton
Dibi: Yes, I do them as often as I can, and I’m fortunate to get to work with other international publications, so I have a chance to interview a broader range of people.
————————————————————————————
When are we going to see another surf trip with the likes of CF, Nathan,  Herbie and maybe throw Greyson in there as well?! – Jordan Cruz
Dibi: They were just in Hawaii for a couple of weeks, so I’m not sure when they’ll be hitting the road again.
————————————————————————————
How old do you think a child is by the time he or she has already defining character and personality traits? – Paul Grossman
Dibi: When I first had kids I was so young I didn’t think much about it, in fact I didn’t think much at all, I kind of learned on the job I guess, but from my own experience I’ll tell you  from the very beginning the boys were different. Individual in every way, from the pregnancy to adulthood, they were unique. I think we all see the world through our own eyes and there may be some family similarities but I think we all have our own path and our own way of seeing, feeling, and acting on it.
————————————————————————————
Sometimes I wonder how we all lived back in the 80s and 70s without cell phones and the internet! Do you think it was better then or now? – Tom Graven
Dibi: It was just different, I can’t say better or worse because it is what it is, and there’s no use living life in the rear view mirror. Innovation is happening so quickly I think it’s a pretty exciting time to be alive!
————————————————————————————
Hi Dibi, the holiday season always sucks for me. I basically celebrate Christmas but my paternal grandparents are Jewish. I wasn’t raised with the Jewish faith but I feel bad because I don’t want them to think that I am not interested in their religion and culture. – Josh Weiss
Dibi: I have a great curiosity about everything and if I was you I’d take the time to learn as much as I could from your grandparents, they’re part of you, and you owe it to yourself to pay attention before they’re not here to share their time with you.
————————————————————————————
Any new projects for you and Herbie for 2012? – Danny Marquez
Dibi: OMG, where do I start? I have nothing really planned with dates, but a list of a hundred things that I need to get done; from a new Wave Warriors, to putting a book together for it, and all the other things that make the show go. It seems that there are new things that jump on the list daily, I guess that’s why things are always interesting and challenging. Sometimes I feel like one of those circus performers that have the sticks with the spinning plates, it’s tough to keep them all going, but interesting as hell if I can do it.
————————————————————————————
Hey Dibi, wow! I am so excited about the upcoming Wave Warriors movie. Is this the 6th one? Since the last one came out, back in the 90s, what made you guys start production on WW VI now? – Gary Root
Dibi: Yes, contrary to what you might have read, it is the VI in the series. Number V we did with Warner Brothers and so there were so many more hoops and paperwork and all the other BS that working with a huge conglomerate entails. This one feels much more like 1-4; our own deal, and the timing just felt right.
————————————————————————————
Greyson is such an amazing skater. No doubt lineage has a lot to do with it! Does Greyson surf too? – Phil Jebsen
Dibi: Yes, he surfs also, but he excels at skating.
————————————————————————————
So I’m gonna ask what you asked Bruce Irons. Who is your favorite historical figure? – Vance Padilla
Dibi: I admire so many people for so many different qualities that it’s hard to pick one. I just read the Steve Jobs book and I really admired his design ability, but certainly thought as a dad he pretty much SUCKED. I believe that it’s probably true in most circumstance. They’re great and admirable qualities in many, but a favorite with warts and all is hard for me to say.
————————————————————————————
Dibi seeing how Christian was THE big movement for aerial surfing and seeing now how Nathan has blown up at Chopes, did you ever think that these groms surfing Poche would grow up to be such legends? – Bill Currier
Dibi: I had no idea that my life would be anything like it is in all honesty.
————————————————————————————
Hi Dibi. So who are the new Wave Warriors? From the recent photo shoot, looks like there were a lot of new faces mixed with some of the OG people. Are you guys going to have a special segment on Andy Irons and Marvin Foster? – Timothy O’Shea
Dibi: I’m sure they will make the cut and I can’t say for certain right now who else will be in it as it will depend a lot on the footage.
————————————————————————————
Does is scare you to see Nathan riding HUGE waves? You have a very talented family. – Scott Johns
Dibi: Yes and no. He’s trained and loves it, I’m grateful that he gets to do something he has a passion for.
————————————————————————————
Hey Dibi do you know someone or have a “friend” who only calls or contacts you when they need something? I haven’t heard from this guy in over 3 years and he suddenly Facebook messages me, asking me for a favor. What a kook! – Freddie Ackerman
Dibi: You would not believe all the people that call, e-mail, and message  asking for pads!
————————————————————————————
Does Joyce still surf? – Bobby Gray
Dibi: She mostly rides wave on her SUP board now, but she still surfs if the waves age good. It’s just damn cold and pretty flat now.
————————————————————————————
I read where it was mentioned that you made Nathan wear a pink wetsuit when he was young so you could keep an eye out on him in the water. I thought that was such a fantastic idea so now I make my little ones wear a bright orange and blue suit as well. Thanks for the idea Dibi! – Hal Manson
Dibi: I’m glad I can be of help. I could spot Nathan anywhere in his pink wetsuit!
————————————————————————————
Hey Dibi, question for you and Herbie both. What made this WW photo shoot different from the last one? – Jim Mackie
Dibi: I’m not sure what made it different for Herb, as I’ve stated before I do not like to speak for anyone else. What I thought was different? The last one was done 25 years ago, and it was amazing to think that it had such an impact that the best young surfers, who weren’t born at the time of the last shoot, felt honored to be part of the Wave Warrior Team, I think that says something pretty amazing.
————————————————————————————
What did u think of Christian’s unique style (hair,  clothing etc) – Trey Walley
Dibi: I think it’s great that he’s always had his own style. Sometimes it’s a bit outlandish, but certainly never dull or boring.
————————————————————————————
What was Christian like as a 2yr old? – Christine Crispell
Dibi: Fantastically FUN!!
————————————————————————————
Dibi one, no THREE complaints about the Wave Warriors photo !!! 1. Where were YOU? Where was Greyson? And where was Walter Hoffman??? – Janice Halpert
Dibi: I’m not a Wave Warrior, as I do not surf, Greyson was skating , and my Dad was at work. I’m grateful that I get to write about the experience as I do feel I have a valid voice having been so involved, but the photo is about the “surfer”.
————————————————————————————
Hey Dibi, will you have a New year’s resolution? – Craig Morton
Dibi: No, I’ve never made one yet, so I don’t expect to make one this year either. I think the pressure of a one day deal is a bit overrated.
————————————————————————————
Dibi what is the nicest thing a fan has ever said or done for you? – Shannon Gibbs
Dibi: That’s so funny, I had no idea I had fans. Shocking idea. A stranger opened the door for me the other day, and I thought it was so nice. I think most people have forgotten how to be polite and it seems a bit odd as manners are free.
————————————————————————————
Hi Dibi. Did you roughhouse with the boys a lot growing up? – Jon P. Billings
Dibi: Herb roughhoused with them. I took them to the beach and played with them in that way.
————————————————————————————
Why can’t I buy Astrodeck slippers anywhere on Maui yet?!?! I ordered a pair 4 months ago and they really are the BEST, most comfortable slippers EVER! & they are really durable too! They are still like new after wearing them everyday for 3 months(they don’t get smelly either)! I’ll rep them for free & get em in shops here just so I can buy more! Aloha! – Robby Webb
Dibi: Thanks, that’s very nice. Most of the outlets on Maui are pretty tied up with the big boys so it’s hard to compete. But I believe in patient perseverance and I feel our time is coming.

Greyson Fletcher: Pillage and Plunder!

Am I bragging if I say that I think my kid is amazing? New video clip of Greyson and what he did during his Summer Vacation.

"What can I say? Sometimes you just gotta let 'em take control!" Dibi Fletcher putting all trust in the hands of Julian Schnabel
(Photo: “What can I say? Sometimes you just gotta let ‘em take control!” Dibi Fletcher putting all trust in the hands of Julian Schnabel.)
Hey Dibi. My brother has a $100,00 student loan and majored in European Folkore. My dad suggested he get a job working at Starbucks or In-N-Out (they have great benefits) but he doesn’t want to and says he wants to go protest at Wall Street. My mom wants to give him the money to fly out to New York. My dad and I are against it. What do you think of it all? - Paul Orozco
Dibi: I’m with your dad. I believe in hard work, and your brother better get used to it or I guess he’ll be like the 52% of the population living off all of us that go to work. What a shame.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
I threw a birthday party for myself a few weeks ago and I have to say I’m really bummed out with the turn out. Only about 9 people showed up when over 30 told me they were coming. I spent so much money on food, drinks, etc. Now I’m just really pissed off and annoyed with all those who didn’t show up but said they would. Am I just being a big baby about all of this? - Evan Mathers
Dibi: Bummer, but interesting lesson. Next year, meet at a restaurant where everyone that shows can chip in. It will seriously keep down the overhead.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hi Dibi, how are you? Anyway, maybe you can give me some advice. My friend Mike really likes this chick named Karen, who I’m really good friends with. He keeps asking me to hook it up with him. Karen told me she has no interest in him whatsoever. I told him that she wasn’t interested in being in a relationship or as he liked to put it “hook up”. He won’t take no for an answer and keeps pestering me about it. What can I say to get this kook to stop hassling me about her? - Dan “Tweet” Bachmann
Dibi: Give him her number, it sounds like she’ll set him straight.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Dibi, my friend has a 5-year-old son who is obsessed with musicals and Princess Jasmin from that Alladin Disney cartoon. She thinks it’s funny and cute when he wants to dress like a girl and wear a long wig and have make-up on. After reading about things in the news lately, I asked her if Robby (her son) ever wanted to join the Girl Scouts, would she allow him to? She said she wasn’t sure. I don’t think she should encourage this behavior. Am I wrong? -
Dibi: Wow, beyond my pay scale, but I’d sure look for someone professional to talk to make sure I was equipped to deal with what might be some difficult decisions.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi, this is a random question I guess. Maybe a dumb one too. I dunno. But I see a lot of surfers, pro surfers, wearing t-shirts while they’re out surfing instead of a rashguard. Why is that? I know it’s to protect themselves from the sun but wouldn’t a rashguard be better? I think shirts get so heavy and floppy in the water. - Erik Sundstrom
Dibi: CF used to wear a wife beater while in Fiji, but it was just to protect him so he could use a front foot pad that he never goes without.
 —————————————————————————————————————————————-
My father passed about 5 years ago and now my mother is in her twilight. Her mind isn’t what it used to be. I would like to be with her and take care of her and have the capability to do so. My siblings think we should just put her in a nursing home. We grew up with the same mother but I just feel like they’re being so callous about this. I am heart-broken. - Phyllis McCullough
Dibi: It’s a really difficult decision that all of us have to face with aging parents. I think the best thing  for you and the siblings is to get together and discuss the financial situation because that, unfortunately, will be the basis for how most of the choices will have to be made. I think about how I want it for me and figured I better work my ass off so I can have some quality choices, and have the control to make them before someone has to make them for me.
 —————————————————————————————————————————————-
Dibi I’m stuck in the middle between two friends. My friend “Jenny” lent my other friend “Susan” $7.00 for lunch. Not that big of a deal, I guess. But Jenny constantly brings up with me how Susan has not paid her back that $7.00. I said, why don’t you bring it up to her? And she says she doesn’t want to look stingy about it but that it annoys her that Susan has made no attempts to buy her lunch or pay her back. Should I drop hints towards Susan about the money she owes Jenny or just stay out of it? - Tracy Liu
Dibi: Stay out of it, not your problem! Money makes many issues completely insane.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
There’s a guy at my work who wears too much fucking cologne. I swear, you can still smell it in the elevator. I asked him if he could ease up on it and you know what the motherfucker did?? He actually started splashing MORE of it not only on himself but in his cubicle, on the plants, etc. What the fuck dibi????? - Luke Gervase
Dibi: HAHA, that’s very funny. I’m at a loss, most of the guys I know don’t really wear cologne and if you already asked him to knock it off, the only thing I can suggest is figuring out how you can move as far away from him as possible.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi! I have a friend who also works in the same office that I do. During our social gatherings on weekends, he is a different person than he is in the office. He’s really fun and out-going but at work, he’s actually rather cold and distant and I find that odd. Or is he just being a good professional by acting this way towards me in the work environment? - Douglas Walther
Dibi: My work environment is very casual, which I really enjoy, but there’s so much regulation in most businesses it’s sad - but probably better for keeping your job in the long run.
 —————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hi Dibi, I have a problem and maybe you can help me. I’m 17 years old, a senior in high school, and plan to attend UC San Diego next Fall. I’ve received early admission. My problem is my dad. He eats, sleeps and breathes surfing. All my dad knows is surfing. In fact, he wanted me to apply to UC San Diego or Pepperdine just so he could visit me and the surf. He is stressing me to join the surf team at UC San Diego and though I like surfing it’s not my life the way it is his. He is so extreme about it that he’s told me that if I don’t join the UCSD surf team, that he won’t be paying for my tuition. I don’t get it. Does he expect me to be a pro surfer? Why is he forcing his obsession with surfing on me? I feel like he values surfing more than helping me with my education. - Mike Mariano
Dibi: Why not join the surf team if it gets the tuition paid? There’s no free lunch, and it seems to me a few hours surfing in the morning is a pretty easy way to get some help for the things you find most important.

—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi, I have a cousin who just got out of prison. He’s been in the system all of his adult life. My aunt bends over backwards to work hard and take care of things. I just want to beat his head in the way he treats her when he’s out. Like she’s his slave, cooking for him, giving him money to go mess things up again. I’ve even told her she needs to be more tougher with him but I think she’s actually intimidated of him. It’s not like she can kick him out, he won’t leave, and it’s not like she’ll ever call the law on his sorry ass. I feel helpless in watching all this go down. He’ll be the end of her! - Terry Govern

Dibi: Too bad for them both. They’re in the dance of dependency and it’s really sad, but both being adults, unless they get help they’ll spiral through it to one of it’s inevitable conclusions.
 —————————————————————————————————————————————-
Do you think it’s wrong that I pressure my friend to stop rollerblading? I just think it’s so lame and don’t like other people calling him a fag. He doesn’t seem to care. Why does it seem to bother me more than it does him? - Justin Roy
Dibi: If he’s enjoying himself, why do you care what anyone calls him??
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
People say that real loyalty is when you stick by your friends no matter what. So would you think I were an asshole if I bailed on my friend who tried to stab someone? I can’t get involved with that kind of shit! It’s too gnarly! - Craig Jasper
Dibi: What do people say stupid is??
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi I just have a quick question and thought I could get your insight. I’m not sponsored by any company but due to an inheritance, I’ve received $104,000. Could this last me to try and give the WQS a shot? And if so, how long do you think I could travel and pay for my comp fees? Thanks!
Dibi: It’s one of the easiest things in the world to spend money that you didn’t make, a lot harder to spend what you worked hard to make. You could blow the 104K in no time at all or invest it and change your future forever. If you’re good enough to give the WQS a shot perhaps you might try to find a couple of sponsors and be willing to use a small amount of your own money so you have skin in the game and invest the rest to have something to fall back on.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hey dibi do you think things like Twitter and Facebook just encourage people to talk more shit and say things they wouldn’t normally say to a person’s face? I can’t believe some of the shit I read on those things! People don’t seem to care about privacy anymore! - Steve Reyes
Dibi: Yes, everyone seems to want to be emotionally naked in public. Some of it is pretty disturbing.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Maybe I should ask you this, since you are the mom of CF! I am thinking of getting tattoos. But I hear people get addicted and can’t stop getting them. I don’t want to end up looking like an atlas map but knowing my personality I probably won’t stop after getting just one. So should I even bother? - Marc Voltaire
Dibi: I think they can certainly make life more difficult, and mine has been hard enough… I can’t imagine tattoos would have made it better. On the other hand, I think CF is perfectly happy with his. So I guess you’ve got two sides to the answer.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hey Dibi. I’ve been married for 3 years to “Bob”. Recently, he told me that into our first year of marriage, he cheated on me with a random girl he met a friend’s bachelor party. He’s begged me for forgiveness and has said it’s never happened again. I believe him…however, it hurts still and I also wonder why he felt the need to tell me this after all this time? Was it eating at him? Is he testing me for a reaction? - Janet Reschlaum
Dibi: Interesting that he felt the need to dump the information on you so he no longer had to carry it alone. It’s nice that you’re able to forgive him, I don’t think I’d be quite so generous.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
I work drive-thru at Taco Bell and I hate it when my friends roll up because they always expect me to give them free food. It stresses me out. I’ve told them to cool it but they think it’s hilarious to come and demand freebies.  Why do people always expect free stuff for nuthin! - Gus Fernandez
Dibi: I really don’t know. There isn’t one day that goes by that someone or two doesn’t call and expect free pads - it’s not like they’re free to me, and I always wonder why they have an expectation that they should be free to them, but I guess that’s the whole premise behind OWS.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
I am adopted and have never had any interest in finding or knowing about my birth parents. 4 months ago, I was contacted by my birth mother. She seems like a nice enough woman and we’ve talked every few weeks or so but it’s not like we’re bosom buddies. She’s asked to see me and has even offered to fly me out to Florida, where she lives. A part of me wants to, a part me of doesn’t. I feel so conflicted and also have this odd feeling of “betrayal” to the loving parents who raised me. Any suggestions on how I should go about this? Thanks, Dibi. - Devon Hoskins
Dibi: I think it’s a question that all adopted children face, and it’s got to be an individual answer. My biological father was never around and I found out years later that I had other half siblings, I met one, but there didn’t seem to be some long lost connection so it faded away as we went on our own life’s path. My life is what I make it and I really spend little time looking in the rear view mirror about what it should or could have been. The responsibility to be happy is our own. I don’t know if that helped, but you’ll have to do what’s ultimately best for yourself and accept the responsibility of that choice.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
I’m so sick of hypocrites Dibi! This guy was preaching to me about how it’s so great to be a vegan and to hug trees and blah fucking blah. Then I pointed out to him that his sneakers were made from suede and his watch strap was made from leather. He had a big “OOPS!” moment there, didn’t he? HA HA HA!
Dibi: The hypocricy is rampant, from the millionaire Michael Moore supporting OWS to the global warming fanatic Al Gore and his private jets, Nancy Pelosi getting in on the VISA IPO while the House was writing the regulations, the list goes on. The saddest thing is that your friend is just a small-time hypocrite compared to the real winners of the BS game.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hello Dibi! What a hoot! I’d like to know what is your first memory of money? Having it or spending it? - Kate Fowler
Dibi: We really had nothing when I was young, but I remember being really happy. I think the best was when we used to collect bottles and save the change to buy Popsicle’s for all the kids at the beach on Balboa Island where I lived.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
My girlfriend chopped her hair off and dyed it jet black and got snakebite piercings. She looks way too Goth and EMO now and frankly I just don’t like this new “style” of hers. I know it sounds shallow and she has so many other great qualities about her but physically it’s just such a turn off for me. But I feel like part of a relationship is that mutual physical attraction and so don’t I have the right to feel this way? - Brady Cullings
Dibi: I think it’s time to start looking around. She is.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
Hi there Dibi. I’m usually pretty shy and quiet. That doesn’t mean I don’t have an opinion on things but I guess I just don’t speak up when I should. I don’t know. I hate confrontation and drama. On the other hand my sister is very brash and loud to the point of obnoxiousness and embarrassment. Is one better th an the other? Am I being a pushover if I don’t say what I feel or is it best to just avoid problems and hurt feelings by staying quiet? - Laurie Ketthler
Dibi: Everyone has their own way of coping and dealing, that’s what makes relationships a mine field. I find it much easier to deal with open aggressiveness; passive aggression really blows my mind but it’s all a part of the drama.
—————————————————————————————————————————————-
I was watching that reality show, “19 Kids & Counting” and it’s about that crazy family, the Duggars. They have 19 kids, born and raised by the married couple of that show. Apparently, the dad made a killing with investments and rental properties so they seem self-sufficient and aren’t on any government assisted programs. But still, something seems wrong, to me anyhow, about having 19 kids even if you have the means to provide for all of them. What do you think Dibi? - Jim Curry
Dibi: I can’t imagine having 19 Christian’s!!

Trick Or Treat, Bitches!

Tuesday, November 1st, 2011

Greyson just killed it the other day at the Etnies “Hallow’s Eve Bowl Bash”. Etnies throws an annual Halloween contest, open to all riders, at their skate park in Lake Forest, and Greyson rode his way through victory in the “Demons” division. So sick. To comply with the spirit of the holiday, Greyson slapped on a clown wig under his helmet and just murdered the competition. He also got 2nd place for best trick overall. How’s that for being so good, it’s scary?

“HEY DIBI, I WANT TO TRY ROLLERBLADING…”

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

Just to remind some of you, I’ve left all the questions written as is. I’ve figured, why go out of my way to make some of you guys look smarter than you actually are and correct all your grammatical errors? Fuck that. - Christian

Hey Dibi, my father is racist and doesn’t want me to date a Mexican guy from Santa Ana. How do I tell him to back off?” - Mary Jonas
Dibi: How do you know he doesn’t want you to date a Mexican because of his race? There’s a lot of different reasons parents have for their decisions concerning who their kids date. Make sure you have yours correct before jumping to conclusions.
—————————————————————————————-

Hey Dibi, am I just as bad as a Soccer Parent if I keep pushing my kid to surf and get upset with him during his NSSA heats when he loses? - John Michaels

Dibi: If the kid doesn’t want to surf, all the pushing in the world is not got to make much difference - whether it’s surfing, soccer or whatever. Losing is part of the process of learning how to win. Life is filled with competition and it helps us grow to learn both sides of the coin early on.

—————————————————————————————

Dibi if you strongly believed in a particular religion and raised your children to have the same beliefs, how would you feel if they decided it wasn’t right for them as they got older? Would you support their freedom to choose that or would you be honestly disappointed? - Theresa Ballou

Dibi: I hope that I’d support my kids in whatever they strongly believed in. I, like most parents, want my kids to be happy and hope that I gave them the intelligence and guts to make their own decisions.
—————————————————————————————
Dibi, my wife complains that all our vacation trips are based on where I want to go surf. I work all year round while she stays home with the kids. I feel like I deserve it and should be allowed to pick the destination. And what’s so bad about her laying on the beach and getting a tan in Barbados while I catch some waves? - Ernie Gallagher
Dibi: Sounds like all my vacations, and it seemed to work out fine for us. As the boys got older I stayed home while they went on surf trips and that was cool, it was a vacation being at home with out them.

—————————————————————————————

Hey Dibi, I have a problem. I am really fit and active and go skating and surfing every day. My problem is that I want to try rollerblading to extend my activities. Should I care what people think? I don’t want to be called a fruit booter! - Glen Wilden
Dibi: I don’t think anyone has to live with constant group acceptance. If that were the case, I wouldn’t have done most of the things I do now. I think it was people making me think I couldn’t or shouldn’t that made me have the drive to succeed.

—————————————————————————————

Hi Dibi you have any suggestions on what to fuel up on before a 5-hour surf session where the sun is beating me down? I get so hungry and thirsty but don’t want to come in right away! - Justin Young

Dibi: I’m a very light eater and don’t like food in my stomach when exercising, but load up on water and carbs after. There’s a zillion great book on diet for athletes, check them out and see what works for you.
—————————————————————————————
Dear Dibi, my parents are pressuring me to go to college and become a physical therapist. But I just kind of want to put off school for a year and travel and do my thing and IF I do go to college definitely have no interest in becoming a therapist. But my dad won’t pay my tuition unless I take those courses. What should I do? - Keith Paulsen
Dibi: Take the courses, all learning is great. I’m sure if you show initiative, get good grades and decide you want to academically change course, I’m sure your Dad would listen a lot more intently.

—————————————————————————————

Hey Dibi do you think if you are a surfer or skater and you are being interviewed by a surf or skate magazine, it should stictly and only be about surfing or skating? - Ron Haarksen
Dibi: When I interview people, I try to ask questions that cause them to stretch a bit, but I try to respect they’re privacy as well. I also try to do my homework and learn about them so there’s a more intimate feel without being intrusive or just plain nosy.
—————————————————————————————
hi Dibi does it ever get tiring when people constantly ask you for free Astrodeck pads or sandals or something? - Deacon Mallory
Dibi: Yes, they’re not free to me, I have to pay for every pad and pair of sandals and work my ass off everyday to keep it all together. It’s interesting that anyone that goes to the market expects to pay for goods, but gets offended when they’re expected to pay for pads or sandals.

—————————————————————————————

Hey Dibi, I’ve tried and tried and just can’t stand up on a shortboard! I’m really bummed because I really want to surf. I can paddle, I can duck dive, but I can’t stand up. What am I doing wrong? - David Stinson
Dibi: Get a bigger board!!

—————————————————————————————

I work for a popular skateboard company. One of our top riders recently got a local girl pregnant and he’s not claiming responsibility. The girl got a hold of me and is desperate to reach him because he’s ignoring her calls. It’s none of my business but at the same time, this guy is a jerk and I feel terrible for the girl. If I stick my nose in, what if i get fired? on the other hand, she’s young and alone and needs his support. - Josh Carper
Dibi: So sad, but my advice is to stay out of the middle. They’ve gone down a road carelessly and it’s time for both of them to grow up without your interference. They’ll have to make the decisions that will change both of their lives and that of the unborn child forever. I’m very sorry for all of them.

—————————————————————————————

Dibi, is it wrong for me to stuff all my problems and pretend they don’t exist and just let them linger or fester or should I bite the bullet and address them all, no matter how gnarly or trivial they may seem? - Scott Childress
Dibi: I’m for facing whatever there is - and I always start with the thing I’d like to run from the most.

—————————————————————————————

Dibi, I’ve noticed that a lot of my friends are always fiending to get their hands on Japanese wetsuits. And Christian seems to like them. Do you know what the appeal is? Are they made with a different kind of material? Thanks. - Richard Wheeler
Dibi: I asked Christian what’s the difference and he said ” Everything!” They just don’t hold up as well.
—————————————————————————————
Hi Dibi, do you think the type of music people listens to kind of shows their personality in the water as far as their surfing skills go? I mean, if a guy listen to Jimmy Buffet do you think he just cruises? Or if he listens to Metallica, is he just going ballistic in the water? Or does it not even matter? - Tommy Muehller
Dibi: Yes, I think it makes a difference in every aspect of what you do. It’s all about choice.

—————————————————————————————

Hi Dibi. I’m really frustrated. I’m 16. I save my money so by the time summer rolls, I have a brand new board. Well I have a little brother who’s 12 and my mom tells me to share my new board with him. He’s careless with it and bangs it around. I must have 4 dings on it already! But when i complain to my mom about it she thinks I’m being unfair and selfish. We don’t have a lot of money where she can buy him his own board - not even a used one. - Carl Simolay
Dibi: I’m sure most any surf shop has a used board section that you can get a deal.

—————————————————————————————

Hi Dibi. This isn’t a surf related question but just thought I’d ask your opinion on it anyways. I have a great uncle who… well, he just lies all the time. He’s told people that he was one of the original Little Rascals and that he was in a lot of movies back in Hollywood’s Golden Era. I don’t know why he keeps doing it only than he gets away with it because people don’t want to make him feel bad. I don’t want him getting this rep as a weird lying freak. Should I just let the old guy keep living in this fantasy world? Thank God he doesn’t know a thing about surfing otherwise he’d probably tell people he taught the Duke how to surf! - Ray Berkshire
Dibi: He sounds like quite a character; the kind of guy I think is interesting. I’d go along with it and enjoy the story.

—————————————————————————————

Is there a union for professional surfers? If not, do you think there should be one? - Owen Lehman
Dibi: NO, NO, NO!!!!!
—————————————————————————————
Why is snowboarding an Olympic event but not surfing or even skateboarding? Geography wise, I would think that snowboarding is as difficult as surfing for there to be more of a mass audience. - Drew Wenders
Dibi: I don’t want to see it become an Olympic event, but I believe there are a whole bunch of people pushing for it, so I’m sure with all the big publicly traded companies running things, it won’t be long.

—————————————————————————————
Hi Dibi. I’m really pissed off. I just saw this video clip where Biden told these 5th graders that he and Obama “inherited” a lot of problems from the Bush administration. What the hell! What’s with the excuses?? Do you agree or disagree? - Taylor Sewell
Dibi: Every administration inherits the problems of the last but it’s time to MAN UP and accept the mess that is now theirs.
—————————————————————————————
Dear Dibi, I was watching the pro junior event and wanted to know why Hawaii is separate from USA as far as teams go? - Daniel Breck
Dibi: I really don’t know, I’m sure you could Google it and follow the trail.

—————————————————————————————

Dibi,  I have a question. What do you think about all these young kids and their parents who are so eager to be sponsored and all they see are dollar signs or getting free product. Now it seems like so many of them just feel they’re owed this! - Ryan Kragen
Dibi: I think it’s sad; I hear about the parents quitting their jobs and pushing the kids to be the next big thing, Be careful what you wish for. It’s a long, tough road and rarely turns out how one would think.

—————————————————————————————

My friend is starting his own clothing line and showed me some of his designs and ideas. I think they’re really ugly and terrible. How do I tell him this without sounding like I’m being jealous of his new endeavors? - Shane O’Dell
Dibi: When any of us designs something, we all give our opinion… and there’s plenty of OPINION. Bottom line for us, it’s not personal. A lot of time, money and energy is going to go into it to bring it to market and it’s got to have legs (sales), for it not to be a huge costly mistake. If your friend just wants a pat on the back great, but if you’re a friend, tell him the truth. It’s a lot friendlier to save him from a huge mistake then spare his feelings. In business you need to learn to hear the truth and not get it mixed-up with anything personal.

—————————————————————————————

What is the value of the media? Do you think there are topics that should be off limits? Have they gone the way of trashy reality TV where they just want to pry into the lives of people and get “the dish”? - Sarah Crowther
Dibi: The media can be a great format and has become so much more with the internet than could have been imagined just a few years ago. But it has gotten a bit bizarre with everyone wanting to be famous. We’ve been approached numerous times to do a reality show, but none of us are interested!

—————————————————————————————

Hey Dibi, why do you think Skateboarding has a more universal appeal than surfing but the surfing lifestyle “look” is more trendy and popular with fashion and attire? - Kyle Russe
Dibi: The whole world is made of cement and it’s about 100 bucks to start up, so everyone has a chance to enjoy skateboarding. Surfing needs the ocean, so right there you’re down availability. The “look” was originally based on the dream of a beach lifestyle that appealed to the world when it became more affluent.

—————————————————————————————

Dibi. I’m conflicted. I’ve been with my shaper for 15  years. We’re great friends. But recently I’ve tried riding a competitor’s board and it really works well for me! I don’t know how to break it to my friend. - Jerry Wilson
Dibi: If your shaper is a great craftsman, he should be able to shape you anything you want. So, get the right dimensions and give him a chance.
—————————————————————————————
Do you think the social media monster Facebook will be around for awhile or will there be something to knock it off it’s tracks? Let’s say, within the next couple of years… - Brandon Murphy
Dibi: Everyone’s going to try, like with anything that’s a hit. We’ll just wait and see.

—————————————————————————————

hi Dibi. please don’t laugh because this is really bothering me. i bring my lunch to work every day. i am lactose intolerant so i bring a special type of diet lunch for myself. well someone keeps messing with me cause they take a few bites out of my lunch and then put the rest back. this is driving me nuts and i can’t nab the culprit! i would keep my lunch with me at my desk but it needs to be refrigerated. should i complain to my supervisor? - Aaron Tremaine
Dibi: I’d first talk to everyone casually before going any further.
—————————————————————————————
Dear Dibi, my son is 4 years old and already a great swimmer. He loves the pool. But he seems to be afraid of the ocean. I really want to start taking him out with me on my board but do you think by doing this, I’ll just make him even more fearful of the waves? - Wayne Laughlin
Dibi: I’d take him to the beach as much as possible and get him a boogie board to play with. Before you know it, he’ll be so water-stoked you won’t be able to keep him out of it.

—————————————————————————————

Hi Dibi. Last week I passed by someone on the highway who had a flat tire. I just drove by because I was in a hurry and didn’t have the time. Well low and behold just a couple of days ago a rock hit my window and now it’s about to shatter any minute. Do you think this was some kind of karma or am I thinking too deep into it? - Alex Martinez
Dibi: I think you’re thinking way too much.

—————————————————————————————

Hey Dibi, my friend is a total wigger and I’m really embarrassed of him. He’s nice but he thinks he’s some kind of thug and so hardcore especially when it comes to impressing the ladies. He has a scar on his leg that he got from a bike accident and he’s told chicks that he got into a knife fight. When he talks like this to people I just want to call him out and call him a liar. Should I do that next time or just let it go? - Travis Mondale
Dibi: Pick out a new friend!

—————————————————————————————

Dibi, I’m asking because I’m not really sure but is it mandatory now for a kid to turn “pro” only after he  reaches the age of 18? I remember back in the ’80s when kids were only 15, 16 years old and were signed on as pros. I mean Kolohe Andino gets paid big and is backed by huge sponsors but is he still amateur status competitive wise? - Roger Baldwin
Dibi: No, it’s not an age issue. But I’m not sure anymore what constitutes “pro”. When Christian was 13, he appeared in a Stussy ad. He wasn’t paid or anything. Stussy was a friend, but the NSSA wanted to insist that he was then a pro. Man, times sure have changed!!

The D-Side With Steve Sherman: Part 1

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

So my mom got a pretty good interview done with skate-turned-surf photographer Steve Sherman. It was cool to hear about Sherm’s roots; starting out as an 11-year-old skate rat in Indiana and then getting into photography, all within the curious progress to learn from what he had seen in skate rags and, in particular, the visionary musings of C.R. Stecyk.

The interview is going to be featured in an upcoming issue of Juice Magazine. But, in the meantime, you can click on the link (or copy and paste) to catch this little teaser piece with Sherm for the D-Side.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VibBqLmECs4

\And if you want to check out more of our clips and videos, go to YouTube and subscribe to our page, Zryder1.

Rumor has it, the next interview my mom is going to conduct will be with the elusive yet mystical Jason Jessee. That kinda makes him sound like a mysterious unicorn running through an enchanted forest, doesn’t it? I’m sure he’ll be pleased.

Hey Dibi: “Scandals, death, arrests…”

Thursday, September 8th, 2011

Just to remind some of you, I’ve left all the questions written as is. I’ve figured, why go out of my way to make some of you guys look smarter than you actually are and correct all your grammatical errors? Fuck that. - Christian

Dibi Fletcher at the Bel Air Hotel for Julian Schnabel's opening at the Gagosian Art Gallery.

Hi Dibi. Let’s say you were a famous actress. What would be the role of a lifetime for you? - Gary Moore
Dibi: Cleopatra - love the costumes and jewels. Blanche DuBois (”A Street Car Named Desire) - completely demented. Norma Desmond (”Sunset Boulevard”) - I’m ready for my close-up!

—————————————————————————————

dibi I have so much respect for you and have read how you will never give up. But what has been a time, even if it was in passing where you wanted to just throw in the towel? - Joanie Reyes

Dibi: I have moments everyday, but about the BIG stuff, there’s no giving up, and whatever the hardship, it seems to have it’s own time schedule no matter what I’d want or prefer. Some things may take a day, a year, 20 years, a lifetime… but it’s all part of the process and I try to keep a sense of humor and laugh at myself daily.

—————————————————————————————

Christian and Nathan have not been very competitive surfing wise but would you not say that doing the best and biggest airs or riding big waves is competition to? - Guilhermo Reyes

Dibi: Yes, they seem to compete more with themselves than with others. I think they love competition, but not being judged.

—————————————————————————————

Will there ever be a Cabo Classic again in the future? Those were the days! - Scott Warner

Dibi: They were FUN! It was a time and a blast, but things have changed so much I don’t know that it could ever happen again, at least not like the originals.
—————————————————————————————

I want to work at Astrodeck! I want to work with Christian! I want to work with Dibbi Fletcher! I will do janitor work! I will get all the pad scrapings and sweep the floors! Arrrrrrrrrrggggh! And I’ll do it all for free so long as I can drop the Fletcher name ha ha ha ha ha!! - Shane Jones

Dibi: That’s very nice, but, heck, you’d be taking my job. Janitor, picking up scraps, working with Christian, occasionally dropping the Fletcher name and doing it all for FREE. Sounds great!

—————————————————————————————

Dibi, I am truly in awe of your artwork. Herbie’s as well. But there is something about yours that I am unable to express with words. I’m sorry to read that you haven’t worked on your artwork lately due to the daily routines we all get stuck with. Will there be any chance of a Dibi Fletcher art revival? - Bill Cohen

Dibi: Everyday is a work of art, and I hope some of mine will be master pieces. I’m sure there will be sometime in the future that I’ll be able to paint more, just now my schedule so full with work, writing and care taking I just can’t fit it in. At the risk of sounding corny, perhaps my greatest work is in the care taking and giving everyone around me the gift of being cared for.

—————————————————————————————

Hey Dibi what area of surfing do you think has not really been explored or been given the attention it should be getting? - Brian Simpson

Dibi: I’m not sure, there’s really cold water waves in far off places, but with time everything will be available for mass consumption.

—————————————————————————————

Sometimes I don’t even check anything else on FB but to see if there is a new Hey Dibi or a new Dside. But……… there hasnt been any new Dside. :(  - Caroline Gleason

Dibi: I apologize for that, it’s been very busy around here lately and it’s sometimes tough to get the on-camera interviews organized. I spoke to Jason Jessee the other day and as soon as he’s around, we’re on. I’ve got a couple of other interviews planned and will try to pull it off soon. Thanks for the push.
—————————————————————————————

Hey Dibi! 1 of my fave interviews with CF is when he said he took guitar lessons but he quit cuz the guy was teaching him songs like Mary had a Little Lamb! But he was pretty bad ass with Bloodshot and Mutliage so I guess he took those lessons after all? - John McNeill

Dibi: Sometimes kids don’t get the end goal; they’re so interested in the present. There are stepping stones to all learning and I learned with time how to present the material better, which is the key to teaching. So, Christian has had an ongoing learning and teaching relationship that goes both ways constantly.
—————————————————————————————
Do you know who Greyson sees as a surfing and skating hero? Who he looks up to and who’s style he likes? Thanks. He’s a sick skater! Yewwwwww! - David Reilly

Straight from Greyson himself: “For surfing, I like the Florences and Bruce Irons. For skating, John Cardiel.”

—————————————————————————————

How did Julian Schnabel and Herbie become friends? - Eric Muenster

Dibi: Herb met him in Texas when he was there for a contest in his teens.

—————————————————————————————

Scandals, death, arrests, Dibi you have been through a lot being at the forefront of the surfing world and industry. What has been the most devastating, sad and shocking to you personally and for the industry as a whole? - Tina Greene

Dibi: I would never presume to speak for the industry. Family drama is always on the forefront of the things that I would find most devastating, like all humans.

—————————————————————————————

I love your motto on Astrodeck! Function over fashioN! I am willing to bet that is a Dibi Fletcher motto even tho she is a very pretty lady i have seen on dside intro! ;) - Paco Rohenaz

Dibi: I have guys call and ask for a pad to match their trunks. Dude, it’s not high heels!! I can’t believe that guys have bought into the same shit that drives the girls market. What a shame. I want to say, “It’s the traction, dummy!”
—————————————————————————————

San Clemente and Astrodeck are pretty synonymous. As are the Fletchers. Do you think you will ever stray away from SC? - Mark Bollinger

Dibi: The taxes, overhead, and cost of doing business are killing us. But this is my home and my parents are close, so right now I’m staying put. But you never know what the future brings.

—————————————————————————————

Fame, Money, Health, Family, Career, Education, Happiness… in what order would you list these things starting from what is most important? - Luke Hanson

Dibi: Health, family, happiness, education, career, money, fame.

—————————————————————————————

Did you know you were going to marry a surfer or would you have been okay if he were lets say a chemist or businessman or teacher, etc? - Mike Smith

Dibi: I was so young and stupid, I had no idea. Sure am glad it’s worked out so well.

Dibi Fletcher! Nathan is a true hellman!! Does it ever worry you or Herbie that he may be pushing te limits too much!! - Alex Beck

Dibi: Lots of things to worry about, but that’s not one of them. He loves what he’s doing and we’re grateful that he has the chance.

Dibi who do you think is the typical Astrodeck consumer? Are they different from a Fletcher fan? - Kirk Wood

Dibi: YES! The Astrodeck consumer is a surfer who’s looking to have the best surfing experience, with the highest quality products, and I believe although sometimes offended by Christian can not deny themselves the best traction on the market to prove some point. Some are so offended they buy something else and end up denying themselves, I’ve always found it quite interesting.

Dibi I bet you were a little scamp as a child, huh? Heeheeeheee. What was your most mischievous thing you did as a little girl? - Jenny Lynnne

Dibi: My sister used to be quite a bully when she’d take care of my brother and I. She’d make us wait on her and do her bidding while calling her Master. She made me fill her bath, which, of course, I did with all hot water, I thought that was so funny until she made me get into it, YIKES, what a bitch!

—————————————————————————————

I am your biggest fan. You are a beauty in my eye. I have collected what little photos I have found on here and online and have made a beautiful cut up collage that only glows with your outter beauty and I have copied and pasted your words of wisdom that portrays your inner beauty. I would like to present you with this and perhaps you’ll be so kind as to sign each area of my work? I await your response with the deepest respect! - Marcus Osuna

Dibi: Oh thanks, that’s very nice.

Dibi why did you not take after surfing like Joyce? Was it not your interest? - Chris Camacho

Dibi: No, I wasn’t interested, I was always into art and dancing.
—————————————————————————————
Because the family is so popular and successfull (GO NATHAN TEAHUPO!) does it even phase you anymore Dibs? - Matt Sikes

Dibi: To be very honest, what most people see is the job part of our lives, not the same struggles and challenges that everyone has on a daily basis, so I think it can be a bit misleading.
—————————————————————————————

Dibi can you ask Herbie does he think boogie boarding is legitimate or lame! - Trent Klevin

Dibi: Christian loves the spongers, and Herb put Mike Stewart in “Wave Warriors”, so I guess that’s the answer.

—————————————————————————————

Have you guys ever been approached to do something and you were like NO WAY JOSE THAT IS SO STUPID AND NOT POSSIBLE! - Jim Carson

Dibi: Yes, a reality show!!

—————————————————————————————

Hi Dibi what is going natha, c hristian, herbie and greysons favorite wave/beach to surfing ever? - Hiroki Noda

Dibi: i think they would say whatever wave they’re surfing at the time. They’ve been lucky enough to get great waves all over the globe and I’m sure they’re always ready for the next thrill.

—————————————————————————————
Dibi where were you (in life, in thought, in your personal journey) 10 years ago and where do you want to see yourself 10 years from now? - Simon Hurell

Dibi: I was waiting. I’m not sure I can ever make anyone understand that. When your kids are having a tough time, your life seems almost suspended in time. Completely my choice, it’s who I am. I feel whole and strong now and  plan on writing, painting, interviewing interesting people, working, laughing and enjoying the rest of life’s ride.

—————————————————————————————

Wow seems just the past few years Nate’s getting a rep as a big wave guy! To cool! Give me kudos to him please Dibi! Thanks! - Lou Gomez

Dibi: Thanks, I will, while I pat him on the back.

—————————————————————————————

Hey there Dibi! :)  Is Greyson your only grandchild? And being in a family with so many men, do you ever long for a quiet, calm little granddaughter? LOL! - Karen Hedric

Dibi: Correct, G is my only grandson. No use wishing for something else, I’ll just do the best with what I’ve got and be grateful that they’re all healthy.
—————————————————————————————
Seems like we just can’t get enough of the Fletchers! Dibi I have never seen or heard you talk but loved the video from the NY Times! You are beautiful and so spirited! - Julie Canter

Dibi: Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.
—————————————————————————————
I always knew Christian was punk and pink is it! Love the pink capri story! Got a pic of Christian with those on? - Marlene Fritz

Dibi: No, he always wore my mom’s clothes to school so he didn’t have to come home, and I thought it was very funny, He just didn’t care.
—————————————————————————————
Holy crap! When did little Greyson Fletcher grow up? He certainly is a gifted boarder! Tree doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it Dibi? - Ray Brughller

Dibi: Greyson has really been coming on. He’s surfing and skating better then ever and he’s terrific to have at the ‘Deck!!

—————————————————————————————

Your family is awesome and I love reading about you guys! Thank you for always letting us get a sneak peek out of you Fun Fletchers! - Sara Yardmahn

Dibi: It’s been such a unique pleasure to have Christian and Greyson back staying and working with Herb and I. Never dreamed it would be like this a few years back. I’m more grateful then anyone can ever imagine. Thanks for the support.
