Dibi: Dude, I’m surrounded by plagerists. I have rather a different sense of humor and biting commentary that people like to lift as their own. I’m used to it, as a woman, and I hate to use that, but all the guys around me can testify it SUCKS being me. I am a beginner surfer and I am enjoying it so far. My question is about traction pads. Why don’t surfers just put traction pad up and down all over the board? SUP people seem to have traction on their boards all over but not shortboarders. Thank you. – Kyle Konrad
Dibi: First, SUP guys stand on the board, they do not lay on it to paddle, so they don’t get rashed on the knees, nipples, etc. Second, shortboarding is about weight and traction all over would add enough to be noticeable. Back pad and front foot where the feet actually go is a perfect combo for plenty of grip.

Dibi; The magazine, the surfboard manufacturing, the clothing were all taking root in Orange County, and it became the hub of the surf business and that is what made it then and now the “hotbed”.

Dibi: I adore ’40s movies that I grew watching with my mom, where women were dames and more often than not had a gun in their purse, and men wore suits and fedoras, anything Film Noir. I’m not sure of Herb’s favorite movie, but he loves the history channel.

Dibi: I don’t think it’s the surfers or skaters that consider themselves heroes. They have the same insecurities, and self doubt as all of the rest of us. It’s the media and constant need for content that drives it. I think people can do heroic things, but when put under the magnifying glass they’re still human and as such, I think anyone should be careful when picking someone to idolize.

Dibi: Nathan really got into cross training to bring his leg back after he broke it a few years ago. Christian is a bit more laid back about the exercise scene. I’m a fanatic and always have been. But a 360 in the tube would be awesome!!!!

Dibi: I think it has changed dramatically over the years for the better. Women now have a chance to really make it a career choice with good sponsorship, but it’s more difficult to market than men’s surfing, so, like most things, follow the money and the answer becomes a bit more clear.
