Dibi: Hoffman Fabrics was originally started by their father, Rube, in New York before either of them were born. They got into it after they grew up and were ready to settle down.

Dibi: Both Herb and I were born and raised in California. I grew up in Capistrano Beach, and after years in Hawaii and a couple of stints in Sun Valley, we moved to Capistrano Beach where we lived for quite a few years before moving to our current location in San Clemente.

Just A Quick Update For Now: Montauk & Manhattan

Still in New York as of this writing. So much to report back; from the Hamptons International Film Festival to the Agenda Trade Show to Greyson and I just meeting up with random friends and hitting the streets. Who knew that summers in New York would keep me this busy?

I’ll write more about our trip when we’re back in California. In the meantime, here are a few snapshots.

Hey Dibi, I’ve been a big fan of your family for years. I had a battle with drug and alcohol addiction a few years back that landed me in rehab 3 times, and I know Christian has had his issues along hte same lines. Thankfully I just celebrated 9 years clean, got married a year and a half ago, and also am about to finish college. My question is even after being sober as long as I have I have still felt a little lost as to what I should do with my life, what is yoiur best advice for life after addiction? Dibi: Christian wrote a technical description of a Judo air and posted a picture of Al Partanen to illustrate his text on Surfer’s FB page, as they had made such an obvious mistake in their description in the Tricktionary article. They deleted it and CF reposted it until they blocked him from being able to post anything. Herb went to their office on another issue and it spilled over. They finally admitted by phone that because he’s not sponsored his comments are not relevant. Pretty interesting, don’t you think??

That’s when I really started finding out who I was. I love to learn, I’m really a perfectionist about my own skills and very demanding that I live up to the goals I’ve set for myself. I’m never bored, there won’t be enough time to master all the things I’d like to. I cook dinner every night and love to laugh.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to see Greyson much while he was growing-up, but he now lives with me so the relationship we have is ours to create, it’s not filled with a lot of memories that sometimes cloud the present. I believe we’re both very respectful of each other and there isn’t the sense of entitlement from him that ones own children have with their parents, so we’re very lucky in that sense. I adore my sons, and certainly I feel that way about Greyson as well, and I’m quite sure the feeling is mutual.

Hey there Dibi. What a great forum! Here’s my question; A few years ago I had seen a photo that I contribute to Bruce Weber. It was amazing and featured you dancing. Was this for a particular photo shoot with Bruce Weber? It was a bit grainy - even to the point of looking like a frame grab - but that may have been the speed of the camera shutter? I’m also familiar with the Fletcher Clan in Weber’s documentary, “Chop Suey Club” which I thoroughly enjoyed. Been a sideline observer of the Fletcher’s ever since. Dibi: I really got into ballroom dancing for quite awhile and went to many competitions. Rhinestones, feather dresses… what’s not to love? The particular photo you’re referring to was from the Fontainebleau in Miami. The event offers you the opportunity, for a cost, to buy videos of your different dances, which I did and let Bruce use some of it and also pull some grabs for stills. So, you’re perfectly correct.

Dibi, I know this isn’t really an advice column like Ann Landers but I sure would like your opinion on something. I try to please everyone and in the process, I always get hurt. Dibi: We all have choices and I’ve made plenty that have forced to think twice. As a middle kid, I’ve always been a pleaser. There’s been great pleasure in doing things for others and maybe the way to really get that pleasure is to do it with no expectations. Hey Dibi, sorry for the loss of Flippy. Speaking of Flippy, I’ve read about the history of him and Walter. Such rich history. I’m curious how they became known as the “Dana Point Mafia” and why they settled on raising their families in Orange County and not somewhere like Malibu. I ask this because I thought they were originally from Los Angeles and geographically thought maybe LA county beaches made more sense? - Ray Dillard

Dibi: Some writer gave them that name in print and it was used many times after, so it kind of stuck. They liked it down here because it wasn’t Malibu. It was very quiet with nothing going on but lots of great surf. They had always had a summer house in Laguna, so they just gravitated to the area when they bought their first homes and thought that living directly on the beach was worth the commute.

Dibi: Yes, we celebrated Thanksgiving. Nathan was surfing in Hawaii, for which I’m sure he was thankful for. CF and Greyson went skating, and then we all met down at my Mom and Dad’s to watch the sunset over the ocean and be grateful.

Hi Dibi. Ya ever go tandem with herb? - Nancy Christopher

Dibi: I used to go tandem with my dad when all the surf contests had tandem events. I was a ballet dancer, so many of his friends wanted to partner with me. I competed with Don Hansen in the Makaha event a couple of times. I grew to hate it; I realized at a young age that I want control over events that concern me, and that wasn’t the case in tandem surfing. I met Herb at Makaha that first year, and there was never talk of us going tandem surfing.

From The Campaign Headquarters Of Christian Fletcher

(Time flies. And, apparently, so does Greyson.)

It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing my withdrawal for candidacy for the position of San Clemente City Council.

At this point in my life, I have come to the conclusion that my son Greyson takes precedence and priority above and beyond all other matters. Though I have spent a lot of time researching all issues and avenues that would benefit and help the residents and city of San Clemente, I think it is far more important that I continue to build a relationship with my son first and foremost. He is what matters to me more than anything else.

We just got back from an epic skate event up in Oregon, and we’re planning another one down the road. We work together, live together, surf together, skate together. This is my life and I love it. The time is now but, at the same time, time waits for no one. I missed out on a lot of his earlier years, so I need to be here for him now. I admit, it’s been hard trying to play catch-up, but it’s also been a blast. Trials and tribulations - and I wouldn’t trade this moment for anything.

I would like to thank everyone who has supported me along this brief political journey of mine; family, friends and especially to my loyal fans. You guys have always had my back and it really shows.

But I’ll be back. Just because I’m withdrawing now doesn’t mean my career in politics is over. Who knows what the future will hold? So, expect to see my name on the ballots two yeas from now. Christian Fletcher for San Clemente City Council 2012!

And, man, I really like how Councilman Fletcher sounds… I think it has a nice ring to it.
