It’s been exactly a week now since that moment during the XXL Awards; when the curtain was pulled back and all the true Wave Warriors in attendance got to see the surf industry exposed. Something like when Toto pulled the drapes and revealed the great and powerful OZ to be nothing more than a wizened little old man. There had been talk that the surfer who had ridden the biggest wave wasn’t going to get the top award, but that instant was deflected by the (somewhat) amusing antics of Christian, and it allowed the curtain to slip back into place as everyone railed about CF’s remarks concerning “the German who can’t paddle.”
One of the magazines tried to carry on the subterfuge by posting a one-sided blog by someone who was going by misquoted gossip and who admitted that he wasn’t even in attendance at the event. This particular magazine posted this guy’s biased link in answer to the questions they were receiving about what really went down. A true piece of literary integrity. But then I’m sure the dinosaur is desperate for the corporate advertising dollars.
The silence on the actual event blog has been deafening. I’m sure they felt with Christian as a front man in the uproar, that the real questions the moment brought up might be totally forgotten.
For the true Wave Warriors that risk their lives to ride the most incredible breaks in the most hazardous conditions, I have nothing but the utmost respect. The objective nature of the sport makes it difficult - if not impossible - to pursue such a career without the industry backing. And there in lies conflict. The business of surfing is BUSINESS. One might ask oneself, “What would be the advantage of a European champ after a few very difficult years in the domestic market?” Let’s see, Germany, otherwise known as the jewel in the lackluster Euro Zone, as we go into the fall buying season…Wow, what a bump to the corporate bottom line!

Part Two of Dibi Fletcher’s Q&A with former NFL New Orleans Saints offensive tackle Kyle Turley. Now touring the country with his own band and promoting his new album “Anger Management” (from Grid Iron Records), Kyle stopped by the Astrodeck Headquarters for a down-to-earth chat with Dibi for her popular interview series “The D-Side”. In this particular clip, Kyle talks about growing up as a grom and his love for surfing. And after viewing this, you can check out the rest of Kyle’s interviews with “The D-Side” on our video and/or blog sections here at www.christianfletchersurf.com

Check this out. Some surf stores up in San Francisco ran out of all their Astrodeck Traction pads, Wave Warriors t-shirts, Christian Fletcher t-shirts and Christian Fletcher Reefers sandals. Herbie, ever the consumate professional, didn’t want those guys to wait around forever in getting their new shipment so he raced on up there to deliver the goods. Needless to say, Herbie ran past a red light. But could you blame the guy? When people want their Astrodeck and Christian Fletcher swag, they want it NOW!!!

So all three of our sites were down for a little over a week. Yup. Www.astrodeck.com, www.herbiefletcher.com and www.christianfletchersurf.com. All down. Fucking tech hell. Eight days in a row. And that’s been a bummer because, like always, we’re always updating and putting up new content. I mean, fuck, I like to give my audience new stuff to brood over, you know? I don’t understand people who have their own websites and blogs and never do anything with them. Like they could care less about their fans and people who want to see recent stats on what they’ve been up to. What’s the purpose then of having one? I think when I’m on here, blogging and Facebooking, that I’m interacting with people from all over and we’re connecting in some way. Whether it’s me just saying thanks for the support, or telling some of you dumbfucks to go take a shit in a milk carton, at least we’re communicating, right?
But, anyway, we’re back. And back with a vengeance. All three sites are up and running. And there’s so much to do. I’m being serious when I say we have so many photos, interviews and other random things to post up here. I mean, I can post up new material every hour and things never get tired. It’s just now being able to find the time to do it all. But I’m stoked. I love the way things are going and the direction we’re taking things.
We’re also in the process of tweaking some things on here, changing the look a little, adding something called “The D-Side”. My mom’s Q&A series, “Hey Dibi” has been so successful and getting a lot of good reaction, so we thought we’d go off the richter scale and include a bunch of raw interviews she’s done (and will continue to do) with people from all walks of life. Talk a walk on the wild side. The D-Side. These characters are definitely not your typical, boring, bland cottage cheese of individuals. I mean, come on, we’re the Fletchers. Just because I’ve made my living as a professional surfer doesn’t mean that these are the only people I talk with or hang out with. No. In fact, I probably don’t hang out with surfers really at all. And I’m down to talk with anyone, learn interesting things from them, get their points of view, etc. and include all of this criss-crossing onto my site in one form or another. It makes things fun and shakes things up. And, fuck, you know I’m all about a good eyebrow raising.
We also recently hooked up with the guys at Casmiro. It’s still in its early stages but I hope to see things boom with that. Basically, what it is is, we’ve given them all our old footage from the movies we used to make at Fletcher Media. You know, films like the Wave Warriors anthology, Adrenaline Surf Series, Savage Beast, Tweak Freaks, Smut Peddler, etc. You get the idea. They take all our footage and splice them into 8-10 minute series and rent them out. Right now, we’ve got Part 1 of Savage Beast up and running. Then we’ll have Part 2 out, so forth and so on. You get to watch it for a few days for only $1.99 or 2 weeks for $2.99. And I think we’re working on a monthly membership plan. Check out the link here and catch the preview. Then join as a member. Yeah-yeah! Casmiro will be the only outlet for you guys to see all this vintage stuff. No where else. Unless you bought an old VHS copy 10 years ago.

And besides all this web stuff, my kid Greyson’s here with me. Working at Astrodeck, learning the ropes. He’s stoked and eager. In fact, he’s here right now working on designing a new sandal using 3D animation and graphics. Pretty sick. We also just grabbed a bunch of sponsors, but I’ll save that for another blog and give you the lowdown on that later.
So for those of you who have been wondering where the fuck I’ve been the past few days in cyber land, well there you go. There’s the latest update. There’s actually way more stuff to talk and report about, but you know what? I just don’t fucking feel like it right now. It’s 3:09 PM. Time for lunch. I’m thinking sandwich.
Oh, and one last thing. I’ll be having my wrestling debut this Saturday at the San Clemente Arena at 6 PM. Christian “Savage Beast” Fletcher. This little side gig has grown into something bigger and I’m always down to try something new. Couldn’t pass this gig up, so come and check it out. If I do well at this event and the next upcoming four events, I may be invited to join the professional wrestling federation. Sweet.
